>>Male #1: This is a career fair. It's one of the best ways
for students to find jobs and internships. But to you, it's
packed. It's competitive. It's a jungle.
[ka-ching]
Go on! Get in there! You can't get a job by sitting around.
Wait. You're not gonna go dressed like that are you?
[ka-ching]
Step one. Dress the part. You can't show up to a career fair
looking like you've just run a 5K. So put on something
nice, but not too formal.
[whoosh]
Yeah! That's more like it. What's that in your hand? Don't
tell me that's your resume?
>>Male #2: It's my resume.
[pause]
[paper crinkles]
[ka-ching]
>>Male #1: Step two. Come prepared. In advance of the career
fair, you should have your resume critiqued by the CDC.
When it's ready, print your resume on resume paper. And make
sure to bring enough copies for everyone you wanna speak to.
[ka-ching]
Tip. Companies like to see that you put a genuine interest
in them. So make sure to research the ones you wanna talk to
ahead of time.
Also, you should practice an elevator pitch. So when a rep
says...
>>Male #3: Good to meet you. Tell me about yourself.
>>Male #1: You'll actually have something to say.
Tell them something that's not on your resume and something
that will make you stand out and be remembered.
Alright. Everything is going great. Now it's time for step
three.
[ka-ching]
Follow-up. Follow up with the people you've met today by
sending an email so that they know you are seriously
interested. It's these interactions that land jobs and
internships.
[background chatter]
[phone ringing]
And remember
[whoosh]
It takes time to work your way up to the top.
