I am Bench Ibañez, a training graduate of house painting under BWI-FNV project.
I attended this training to have an option for paid work, and also because my father is a construction worker, too.
I requested him to include me on his work but he said I am not qualified because I am a woman
I also tried to apply in big construction companies carrying my complete requirements.
The questions are all the same: “Can you climb big buildings?”
or “Can you paint on the 8th floor of a building?” Even I answered YES, they still don’t hired me because I am a woman.
They don’t trust women in the construction industry.
I can only have jobs through friends and this is the only time that I can enhance my skills in house painting
As far as the safety is concerned, I cannot personally comply with all the safety requirements
like wearing of safety eye glasses, mask and helmet because of the small amount of the contract
If I will be buying all the safety gadgets, nothing will be left for my personal needs like food, etc.
I would like to call on my co -women workers to speak out to fight our righteous place in the Construction Industry
This is the way for women to find jobs during the edge of contractualization.
Let's organize and unite all women workers in the construction industry
