Late work:
Here's all i can say to you, really, about late work:
You can't turn in work late.
It has to come in and on time, and that's really the bottom line.
I guess i'll start with with quizzes.
All over the syllabus, it says. . .
. . .with quizzes. . .
there are no make-ups, no retakes, and no rescheduling is possible, so
if you run into some sort of technological problem or some other type
of problem,
I'm sorry.
The quizzes either accomplished or they're not accomplished, and when they're not
accomplished,
zeros are recorded. My suggestion to you is that all quizzes always open up
at 11:59 pm on
whatever given night.
Take them the next day; don't wait until the last several hours that quizzes are open
to take the quiz. That way, you could work with our tech support
department if you if you're having some sort of problem.
Also,
there is no feedback on quizzes, which I agree is unfortunate.
Well, students sometimes share answers,
and because of that, we can't offer any feedback,
so. . .
what sometimes happens is
students get caught up in the fact that they have to see the wrong answers
to really help them study and improve their skills,
and it's just not true.
So please,
do not contact me and ask to see the wrong answers on your quiz or some sort
of review of the quiz.
My answer is always going to be no,
and we just have to do it that way to protect the integrity of
the quiz questions.
So as I said,
they simply must come in on time.
If your essay is late, and by late, I mean one minute later. . . I'm a stickler
about due dates. . . you have plenty of time
to get essays
reviewed, drafted and revised, and turned in on time. So don't be late;
you lose just too many points
for
lateness. So they really have to
come in on time.
The other thing I want to talk about a little bit
is
attendance. So
sometimes things happen,
and i realized that, so
you have a certain number of absences
before your withdrawal.
and the syllabus is quite clear about the number of absences, and what defines being
absent.
Really, I hold to the policies of the syllabus
exactly,
and we don't vary from that at all, and our department is
very much in unison about following that.
So
things can happen. . .
you could
get sick, or an immediate family member could get sick,
and sometimes there are even more tragic events.
Sometimes, students have to attend a funeral or something like that.
I'm very sorry, but we don't take doctors' notes to mitigate absences. We don't
factor in personal circumstances or even things that are tragic or out of your
control.
We just can't factor those in, and here's why:
if we begin to judge
the severity
of every student's individual circumstances, then every instructor in this department
sets himself or herself up
as the judge of how severe everybody's individual circumstances are,
and there's simply no way to be fair
and be the judge.
So what we do
is we create a policy, which clearly tells students how many absences
you'll be withdrawn after.
That's it,
and I will hold to the policies of the syllabus
exactly.
So all I can say is
work has to come in on time.
Watch your absences.
You can always
find out how many absences you have by clicking on attendance
on the top D2L
gray menu bar towards the top of your screen, and please don't contact me to
retake or reschedule quizzes or review the answers.
My answer to that...I'm sorry. . . is always going to be no.
