Hey, there, cool cats, this is the Hi Fi Guy here with you again, hoping you're having
a great day just like I am. And to make a great day even better, I'm here to share with
you some review summaries I found about the KOSS Port Pro Ultimate Portable Headphones.
Actually, there are two versions of this headphone set. There is the original version which came
out in 1984 and is still going strong today and is not about to go away any time soon
because almost everybody that uses it falls in love with it. And now there is also the
newer version, the KOSS KTC -- that is, the KOSS Touch Control Porta Pro, which, for a
little more expense, comes with an online microphone and remote, and is specially built
to go with your iPhone, iPad, iPod, or other mobile device. You can click on the thumbnail
links you see to the left to watch review videos about the features of these two headphone
sets, and I'll be showing the thumbnail links to these two videos again later on toward
the end of this video, but right now I want to share with you what some people have to
say who have actually owned and used the KOSS Porta Pro headphones.
Reviews about the PortaPro range from "The best lightweight headphones money can
buy." to "Very disappointed with these headphones."
Most of the people who write negative reviews complain that the headphones look and feel
cheaply made, and that they break easily. However, many more buyers and users love them
than hate them. On the official Amazon site at www.amazon.com,
1,498 reviewers would give the Koss Porta Pro
4.5 stars out of 5 for customer satisfaction, and they break it down as follows:
66% would give the PortaPro 5 stars out of 5 for customer satisfaction,
22% would give it 4 stars out of 5, 7% would give it 3 stars,
2% would give it 2 stars, and 3% would give the PortaPro 1 star out
of 5 for customer satisfaction. If you visit the official Best Buy site at
www.bestbuy.com, you would see that 52 reviewers would give the Koss PortaPro
4.8 stars out of 5 for customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, Best Buy doesn't break that
down into percentages for us, but they do tell us that
98% of reviewers would recommend the PortaPro to a friend.
On the official Ebay site at www.ebay.com, 82 reviewers would give the PortaPro
4.7 stars out of 5 for customer satisfaction, and they break it down as follows:
75% give it 5 stars out of 5 for customer satisfaction,
22% give it 4 stars, 1% give it 3 stars,
1% give it 2 stars, and 1% would give the Koss PortaPro 1 star out
of 5 for customer satisfaction. And finally, on the site known as www.head-fi.org,
16 reviewers would give the PortaPro 3.8 stars out of 5 for customer satisfaction,
and they break it down as follows: 13% give it 5 stars out of 5,
56% give it 4 stars, 31% give it 3 stars,
0 % give it 2 stars, and 0% give the Porta Pro 1 star out of 5 for
customer satisfaction. So what are people saying about the PortaPro
after they have actually owned and used it? Reviewer #1 likes them because they are
light, portable,
they have a lifelong warranty and a very unique sound signature, and they are
so comfortable that he says, "...several times I totally forgot the headphones
were still on my head." But he does complain that they
tend to break easily, they tend to pull out his hair in the headband adjustment,
and the bass overpowers the mids and highs, and
the cable itself seems kind of thin and fragile. Reviewer #2 compares them with a Sennheiser
PX100 that he bought, and though he says "They are both excellent choices," The PortaPro
has the advantage that it collapses into a tiny ball, of the two the
Porta Pro has more bass, and to him
"...the music sounds more alive," and they feel more comfortable under his wool hat,
but what he doesn't like about either set is that they both
leak a lot of sound. Reviewer #3 says that of all the portable
headphones he's ever used, "...these are the best I've found yet" for
sound quality because they have the smoothest wide range he's ever heard from
any portable headset, and says, "I've yet to find anything that comes close."
He calls them a nice mix of sound quality and comfort because of the
temple-pads that lift the elements away from your ears. He appreciates the
Lifetime warranty, but he does say they seem a little
"...bass-heavy." Reviewer #4 says that he has owned two sets
of the PortaPro over ten years, and he says, "The sound quality was great," with
"Wonderful bass." He uses his a lot on plane flights and says they
"...Stayed comfortable for excruciatingly long flights." What he doesn't like is that
Hair penetrates the speaker grill and makes an irritating noise against the speaker membrane.
But when all is said and done, he gives the PortaPro
5 stars for durability, 5 stars for portability,
5 stars for sound reproduction quality, and 5 stars for comfort.
Reviewer #5 compares the PortaPro with his Bose Headphones, and says the PortaPro is
On par with the Bose On-Ear Headphones which cost three times as much, and says
"I really cannot think of anything bad to say about these." He calls the bass
"...quite amazing." For comfort he would give them
6 stars out of 5 and says he could ware them all day. He uses his PortaPro for running,
and finds them very light weight says they
hold to his head well. In his opinion the newer
fabric insolated cable is an improvement over the older plastic cable.
Reviewer # 6 says that when he got the product he became an instant fan because of their
light weight, portability, and
amazing sound quality. He says, "Now I have them and I simply cannot put them
down." But he says they would be better if they were
Noise cancelling. Though Reviewer #7 gives the PortaPro good
marks for a decent price,
adjustability, light weight and
good sound, for him the 4 ft cord is a bit too short, and since he
is an unusually large person, it doesn't adjust enough for his large head.
Reviewer #8 calls the PortaPro, "...hands down the best portable headphones
on the market today." He says they are unbeatable for value and quality, and says
he was "...blown away by how much bass these things
put out..." and finds them so very comfortable that he sometimes forgets
that he has them on. Though he says they have great sound, in his opinion the mid tones
sound slightly recessed. He likes that they were
"very inexpensive," but what he doesn't like is that they tend to
leak a lot of sound, and that sometimes his hair
snags in the metal band. But Reviewer #9 appreciates that the PortaPros
allow him to Hear outside sounds because in his job he
needs to be aware of what's going on around him. He also appreciates that they collapse
and Fold up very small for convenience. He finds
them to have better sound and to be
more comfortable than any earbuds he has ever used, and he says the
adjustment switch on the side of each earpiece makes a very significant difference in comfort
for him. His teenage daughter liked the PortaPro sound but wouldn't be caught dead with them
in public because of their unusual appearance, but the dad says he's
not so concerned about the "cool factor." Reviewer #10 says that he uses his headphones
for his work as a musician, so he also needs a
semi-open headphone set like the PortaPro to hear what's going on around him. He calls
them "...a classic headphone and a great *** for
the buck..." and "Overall, a great piece for a little money!"
because of their clear sound and
very good gain, though he does not find the design to be especially attractive.
Reviewer #11 likes what he calls the "PortaPro Experience"
"With the wonderful bass and full bodied sound..." and he also likes the
comfort, but he is annoyed that his hair gets caught in the headband, he thinks
the cord is too short, and his girlfriend thinks
they "Look silly" on him.
And finally, Reviewer #12 calls them "...really clean sounding headphones" with
bass that is "...strong but not overpowering," mids that are "clear and detailed," and
highs that are "...on the bright side...but not harsh." He appreciates the
comfort factor and the low price, and the
lifetime warranty, but what he does not like is that they feel
cheap and flimsy, and for his taste are not very loud.
I sure hope that these review summaries have been helpful to make a wise decision about
the Koss PortaPro. As I mentioned before, if you would like to see more information
on the online headphone store, www.hifiheadphones.org, you can click on one of the thumbnail links
to view a short video about the original Koss PortaPro or about the newer KTC PortaPro headset
for IPhones, iPads, iPods, MP3s, mobile phones and other mobile devices. And you can also
click on the third thumbnail link to go to another website called www.qualityheadphones.us
where you can see a collection of videos by other authors about this product and see what
they have to say. Well, that's all I have to say for right now. So long, and have a
great day.
