Hello! How are you? We are Real Life in Mérida
and today we are at the faculty of psychology in the “Autonomous University of Yucatán"
and we are going to document the first fair of this university.
Our co-worker Gio will accompany us in this event.
Of course! I am very excited to be participating in this event with all of you.
Ready Gio?
Let’s do it.
Tell me, what are we going to see today?
Today we have a series of activities.
We brought an artistic exposition,
a personality called Cesar Cisneros,
sculptures from Miguel Angel Se
and we are going to have performances with guys playing with fire,
a troubadour singer/songwriter Alfredo Sotomayor,
a jazz group called the “Trio del Sur”
and in a few moments the arrival of “Colectivo Ciclo Turixes”
as well as a group of astronomers.
So tell me more about your tricks.
How do you do it? Where did you learn?
I learned it from YouTube.
All it is is a performance with some chains that on the end
they have a ball of fire.
It’s really cool because it promotes the comradery among the students
What is it you are doing?
Today we have two telescopes that are the most powerful we own
and one of them is pointed at the moon and the other is pointed towards Venus.
In a while, when Venus is no longer visible we will be observing the planet of Saturn.
In Twitter and Facebook the name is “Cosmonavis”,
the email is “cosmonavis@yahoo.com.mx”.
What is it you do?
We are promoting the use of bicycles as a mode of transportation in the city
so we can request public funds to increase its use and obviously promote safety
so the people will be more willing to use them
because one of the main limitations is safety itself.
If I want to be part of this movement and participate
with you on the bicycle rides, how do I go about it?
t can be done in two ways.
If you want to be part of the organization all you need to do is send us a message
to “cicloturixes@gmail.com”
or on the social networks at “Ciclo Turixes”
or participate every Wednesday like the rest of the people.
You bring your own bicycle or you can rent one.
We suggest you bring your own and take part on the ride.
Thank you for your time and we invite you every Wednesday at 8pm in Santa Ana Park.
Thank you!
We are now seeing the fire show given by Sergio.
Let’s watch him.
Hi, how are you? What’s your name?
Juan Garcia, nice to meet you.
Tell me what you are doing here
because I see there is electronic equipment as well as acoustic instruments.
How are you going to mix all this?
We are the “No.Estacion.Arte” ensemble
and we improvise our electroacoustic music.
That means we mix electric and electronic elements and acoustic instruments
like the bass and cello, the guitars and found objects.
I see you have a little bit of everything here.
Even CD’s on top of this small instrument.
What is this instrument called?
It’s a Psalter.
And how do you mix all these? This is great!
Tell me a little more about what you do here.
It’s undetermined. There is no script to follow.
It’s something that is blended as it is arises
in your mind and heart.
What is your inspiration when you are playing so many instruments
and everyone else is playing and each is in their own space,
in their own little world? What is the source of your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from them
because I start to follow their lead and it evolves into a connection
that could be collective or between two or three people
and that is the magic of music.
Excellent!
At this time
I am going to use both turntables and possibly the rest of the group
will use other elements for the simple fact this is instant music.
I play the guitar but today I’m going to play it with a bow
to accompany the string section.
Although it’s an instrument that should be played with the fingers,
today it will be done with the bow.
We want to thank the organizers of this event,
Mauricio and Jorge and the Faculty of Psychology of the UADY.
Gio, what did you think of this event?
I thought it was a very interesting event with many varied tastes
and I think the students came together and enjoyed the interests of others
and I am very happy to have shared this with all of you.
Thank you for joining us and we will see you in the next episode of
“Real Life in Mérida”
Thank you and so long!
