How to crochet a swirl hat
Half double crochet hat, spiral rounds, colour change
Yarn: Caprice Big by Rellana, hook: 8 mm, markers (more info in the desciption)
Magic ring
Create a circle, put the long strand under the circle, pull it thorugh
Insert your hook through the loop, secure with a chain stitch
8 half double crochets (hdc) into the ring
Pull the short strand to close the ring
Insert a marker into the loop on your hook
1st round: increase every stitch (2hdc into each stitch)
2nd round: colour change, we have to finish the first round with the new colour
Tie a knot
2nd round: move the marker, increase every 2nd stitch (1 hdc, 2 hdc)
Change colours as you like
Put a marker where to change colours again
First we had 8 hdc, after increasing we had 16. Insert marker after 8 stitches.
Finish last stitch before colour change with new colour
You can use more yarn balls if you have many colour changes
3rd round: move tha marker, increase every 3rd stitch (1 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc)
4th round: increase every 4th stitch, 5th round: increase every 5th stitch etc
Decide how to design your stripes on your own
Continue crocheting 1 more stitch every row = big stripes
1 more stitch every 2nd row = thinner stripes
Stop increasing: your head perimeter - 2cm = circle perimeter (eg 56-2=54cm)
If your circle is big enough, crochet in spiral rounds without increasing
Normal hat: crochet until your ears, Long Beanie: continue crocheting to get a long "bucket"
Leave enough space for 2 rows more
This is my hat. Now we want to finish this hat.
You can see a step between the actual row and the row before
Slip stitch, cut one colour, tie a knot, work only with one colour
Chain one, single crochets (sc) across the round
One dark stitch left, join the round through the white stitch, slip stitch
Chain one, turn your work, sc across the round
Slip stitch through first stitch, cut your yarn, pull the yarn through the last loop
Tighten, sew in the ends
