There's been a lot of talk and requests about Iodine Rich foods.
Today I'm going to go ahead and make an Iodine Rich Smoothie for you
but first of all I'd like to say my heart goes out to Japan
and all of the people affected by the tsunami and it's a shame that it has to be about us
now we have a situation where we're all running out in a panic
getting the things that we need, but it would be nice if we could concentrate on helping
Japan and doing what we can to visualize them getting
through this without having anymore people injured or killed.
So today, we're going to go ahead and show you how to make this Iodine Rich Smoothie
we have a lot of ingredients here that are rich in iodine.
People are talking about kelp and kombu and sea products
which are rich in iodine and nice to utilize.
So today we're going to combine those with other things that are also rich in iodine
but rich in micronutrients as well and going to make a nice creamy smoothie.
We're going to put the kombu and kelp in a vehicle of essential fatty acids
good nuts and seeds. We've got hemp seeds, almonds, and sunflower
seeds that we're going to go ahead and work into
the smoothie And that will help infuse this iodine into
your system through these good essential fatty acids.
We're also going to use some berries for flavor. We're leaving the tops on the berries for
a little more nutrition and some chlorophyll. Cilantro has a very unique flavor
a lot of people aren't particularly fond of it,
but those that are really love to use it because smoothie. it's kind of a different ingredient for a
Leafy spinach, leafy green vegetables are
also a wonderful option and fresh juiced carrot juice is going to
be the base today You can use just water as a base, you can
use almond milk, oat milk rice milk, regular milk, it's really your
choice. We have a really nice Vitamix here we're going
go ahead and make our smoothie in today. So I'm just going to go ahead and get started.
It's nice to use the freshest ingredients whenever possible
We're fortunate here in California we can grow our own veggies and cilantro and things
like that This is really super fresh Cilantro
about as fresh as you can get, in fact right now it's going to get cut and
go into our smoothie.
So we'll put that in we're going to put our strawberries with the tops on right into our Vitamix.
I've let people go ahead and try a little bit of the kombu and kelp before they
use a whole bunch. What you need to do is take a small amount
of warm water and rehydrate, in a glass bowl or some kind of a bowl
and then you can go ahead and use the kombu as well as some of the water so you're not losing
the nutrition in there. We've got about a cup of spinach here.
Almonds that have been soaked.
Sunflower seeds.
Couple tablespoons of hemp seeds as well.
The kombu that we got is from the Mendocino Coast and nice and clean.
You want to get a nice cold-water seaweed if you can.
Couple tablespoons of hemp seeds.
You can use a small avocado or one large avocado. It helps to make the smoothie really creamy.
Really nice organic, small avocado.
So I like to keep a little water on hand just
incase the carrot juice is not enough for consistency.
A little bit of kelp. Just about a Tablespoon of kelp
Going to start it on low.
Turn it up to high.
Just want to mix it until it's nice and creamy and these Vitamixes work really well.
That's a power packed smoothie, full of iodine rich foods.
And again my heart goes out to the people of Japan and all the people affected by the tsunami.
And let's all put a good thought out to them.
