SKATE: Today on Gamekings: Theres an idiot in front of the camera.
Dennis goes to the ea showcase in London, to check out Battlefield 3.
For press trips we travel all around the world, to exotic locations, like today.
So what are the requirements?
A host,
A camera man,
And a ride to the airport.
Dennis: Im on my way to Schiphol, from there i directly fly to London, to the ea showcase.
They are gonna show there line up.
That includes: Alice the madness returns, but actually we are going for battlefield 3.
Im hoping to play the game, instead of watching.
I've seen the trailer, and it looks awesome.
Maybe its going to be a Call of Duty killer, We will see in London.
They have left a huge impression with the trailers, and the new engine.
Needs to be bigger, more realistic, more awesome,
it needs to be the best shooter ever.
SKATE: Dennis and Melle are on there way to England, for the ea showcase with battlefield 3.
Boris: NFS is going in a new direction with there Shift series, today we are gonna talk about part 2,
with even more realistic tracks, and cars.
Skate; NFS was always a arcade racer, with games like Gran Turismo...
and Forza you could say that that we have enough of Sim Racers.
Do you think theres space left for Shift 2?
Skate: Yeah, enough. Forza isn't a supersim, just like Shift 1.
There are alot of arcade elements in the game.
Same thing counts for Shift 2.
Its more flashy like a GT, what feels a bit clinic, very clean, tidy.
Shift is more dirty. Not only graphical, but also the steering part.
Boris: My opinion is that GT gets interesting after a week playing,
with Shift you put the game in your Xbox or Playstation...
and you start of racing directly, it's really in your face.
Skate: It's like; I have one gear, go! (Charlie Sheen FTW!)
That isn't a bit strange because, there are 20 tracks, only 140 cars.
So it isnt like a car collecting game like GT.
Boris: I find the differences between the cars a bit dissapointing.
Surely theres a difference in speed, horsepower and all that,
but the feeling is the same with every car.
Skate: No, because you can tune a lot. So you adjust that feeling.
I do think that the controls are a little bit " iffie"
Boris: WTF "iffie"?
Skate: when im stearing in a corner for like 5, 6 seconds, it goes its on way directly of track.
Sometimes I've the feeling that the car just does what he wants.
Boris: thats really realistic, because if you race on the Nurhburgring,
its well known that there a alot of hills, a circuit with alot of holes and gaps.
And if you are going with 220 over a hill, try to keep your car straight in the road.
Skate: But when i steer in gt, i get the feeling that he does what i want.
In this game when im stearing even on a straigth road,
it takes me 5, 6 seconds to straighten up the car.
Boris: and thats not because you had some damage earlier that race?
Skate: No, i ride mainly clean laps.
When you drive clean laps, you can earn alot of experince points,
it has a level system that we see in role playing games. Thats getting more common.
With the xp gathered you can buy new things, new tracks, cars.
You also can earn money. That gives it another dimension. I like that.
Boris: theres room next to gt, forza for a realistic race sim, add shift 2 to that genre.
Skate: so we are back were we started, the circle is round,
and we are standing at the beginning again.
SKATE: Dennis has arrived in London for the ea showcase,
where all the new games are presented to the press.
He have not only watched but also played.
About witch games were talking?
What do you think of...
Alice the Madness Returns, ***' Battlefield 3, Shadows of the Damned.
Ive just played sotd, a sur ivl horror game, made by japanese people of the games industry.
Creaters of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, No More Heroes.
The genre has changed as time passes by,
in the early games it was really slow gameplay,
You can attack enemies with your stick, you need to hit them so they in contact with light,
after that you can hit them with your gun, shotgun.
Theres some puzzle elements here and there,
i think that was a bit wierd.
Sometimes i didnt know what the puzzles were al about.
Maybe its really dumb from myself,
but a talked to some people and they were all thinking the same.
You have a head and you need something, you dont know what,
you see the darkness coming, thats really threatning.
You go in The darkness and youll see some brains.
Pick it up, put it in the skull, and you can proceed a little bit.
Some people found it very funny, myself not really.
It doenst have the vibe of the early games, like Silent Hill. And thats a shame.
My conclusion is that is feels a but outdated, old fashion game play i can live with,
but with old fashion controlls not. Then it becomes more annoying.
They need to work on this, the game is coming in june.
Skate: later on more from the showcase in London, with Battelfield 3.
Steven: what do you when you wanna promote your brand new controller?
You get all the playstation characters, and alot of mini games.
And then you have: playstation move heroes.
It all seems been there, done that to me,
you take the playstation franchise, combine them with the mini games.
Skate: yeah, but there characters we all know. There not any characters,
THE playstation platformers.
Jak & daxter, sly cooper kf raccoon, the least wel known of the company
Yeah, but it is a cool and powerfull company.
These are platform heroes, piece by piece.
Steven: but theres no jumping.
Skate: no jumping indeed
Steven: a little bit dissapointing.
Skate: WTF, maybe it will turn out to be good with the minigames, with very strong characters.
Steven: there fun characters
Skate: absolute, i agree, they have a past
Steven; and a good name, with fun games.
Skate: and what do they release?
Steven: i dont know exactly.
Skate: i know.
Steven: i agree with ' nothing ', i dont know what they went for when making this game,
because thry wanted sometijg to do with the move.
They hAd to figure out something with the controlls.
You can not jump with any character, throwing a disc a littls bit, with the move ofcourse.
Steven: aside from the fact that they didnt find anything interesting. It doesnt work.
You have three movements with the motion sensor,
thats the wip, the disc and the wrench. None of these three moves are well thougt over.
Skate: the wrench is still do-able, you sweep like this.
But with the wip, that doesnt work at all.
Steven: i use the disc alot. You throw it and then you get the camera chasing the disc,
and it isnt very accurate, you bounce of everything, it doenst feel right
If you have a really simple game, and the controlls are broken, this is what you get.
Its really a shame that this characters are beeing used by PMH,
because when you see the games there used to play in, this isnt good.
Skate: no indeed, they deserve a better faith.
Thats where its all about the ea showcase,
with mainly battlefield 3, but also alice the madness returns.
Dennis: behind me they are playing atmr.
Alice is a litte bit crazy. She hes a knife, always dripping blood.
She insane, you see it in here eyes. She goes to imaginary land, because that whats she does.
There you will encounter elements youve seen before in a video game,
like platform, hack & slash, adventure, and thats alice the madness returns.
Is it fun? I thibk it is, some things really stand out in this game,
thats mainly the style.
A stange world you know from tim burton films. That youll see ib this game,
like dodos on a stick, witch was very funny, the nose of pig on the wall, still alive.
The masonic checkered floors. It a really vaque world witch made me really calm.
Thats the feeling i got, looking around. Checking out the scenery,
espassecialy with the puzzle elements, it really stands out.
So its also a platform game, she can turn very tiny,
and discover things you dont see when you are normal size.
You can double jump with your dress.
Well all seen it, but with that freaky style it becomes really special.
Its been a while ive played a good platformer, the wait is over. It releases june 16.
Skate: After the commercials, finally battlefield 3.
