HTH District Intern Credential Process Step-by-step guide on what is needed for your
first credential (Single, Multiple or Ed Specialist). Step 1: Employment
Get hired to teach at a HTH school or HTH-affiliated school in a teaching assignment which matches
the credential being pursued (i.e. Single Subject, Multiple Subjects or Ed Specialists).
Employment is defined as teaching 50% or more time as the teacher of record.
Step 2: Transcripts Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited
college or university. Don't delay...Order your official transcripts
from all universities attended.
Mail to: High Tech High
c/o Teacher Credentialing 2855 Farragut Road
San Diego, CA 92106 Step 3: CBEST
The CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) is a mandatory exam which covers Reading,
Writing and Math. You can take this exam as a paper or computer test. The computer test
is offered year-round, Monday-Saturday by appt. Visit www.cbestnesinc.com for info.
CBEST is tied not only to credentialing, but also employment.
Send us your official passing score report once completed. CBEST scores never expire!
Step 4: LiveScan ...psst, this is different than the one you
did for employment!! Prior to the start of school, new teachers
must complete LiveScan fingerprinting (either the 41-LS or Dual-Reporting form) for the
Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Results will go directly to the CTC. This LiveScan
is for teacher credentialing purposes, not employment.
**If you have a sub permit or Certificate of Clearance, then you do NOT have to redo
this LiveScan form. Step 5: Subject-Matter Competency
...2 ways to do this For the District Intern credential, there
are 2 ways in which to prove subject-matter competency. First option, take/pass the CSET
(California Subject Examinations for Teachers) in the subject area in which you have been
hired to teach. Second option, and one that is very rare, is to receive a subject-matter
waiver letter from a CA university subject-matter program. If you think that you might qualify
for such a letter, talk to the credential analyst at your university. Otherwise, the
remaining 99% of you will be taking the CSET exam.
Typically, the CSET is offered every other month. Before you register, talk to us in
the credentialing office for testing advisement. We would hate for you to take the wrong test!
Go to www.cset.nesinc.com for more info. Step 6: US Consitution
You can meet the US Constitution requirement in 2 ways...a college course in US Constitution/American
History or you can take an exam at the SDCOE. Let us review your transcripts first!
Voila! That's all folks...! Bring us those docs and
we will apply for your District Intern credential. Congrats!
