Hi, I'm Chris and this is first in the series of videos discussing the difficulties of blend
The first in the series of videos deals with matching vocal color
I want to encourage you to listen to those not only in the side of you or in a larger ensemble
in front and behind you, but to listen beyond that to people stay two or three places away from you
it would really enhance the blend
In the King's Singers we use different vocal colors to enhance the dynamics
listen out to the begginning of "It's a new world" by Harold Alan
there you will hear a breathier sound which really helps with the pianissimo sound
>
So that breathy sound is now going to be contrasted with a more focused sound a brassier sound if you like
this clip is "la tricotea" by Alonso
>
There brassier sound really enhanced the fortissimo singing
Now listen out to this six third taken from fourth verse of "Down to the River to Pray"
a folk song arranged by Philip Lawson
in this you will hear a breathier sound moving towards a more focused sound
and the dynamic range that is therefore created
>
So there you have it arrange of vocal colors to enhance the dynamics
it's up to you now and your own choirs to discuss where you'd like to make those changes in vocal color
