Hi! I’m Lisa Krone and I am here with Best Epicurean on behalf of expertvillage.com and
today we are going to learn how to make grilled cheese on the grill. So first of all number
1, I have some bread. I have some pre-sliced cheese and you want to buy this so that you
don’t have to be slicing your cheese before you start. I softened some butter so that
it will be easier for little hands if kids are going to help make the meal, to butter
the bread. Basically what you do is grab some butter, you butter your bread very quickly
with the butter, make sure that you have your matching sides so you don’t have wrong sides
going on your butter; there we go. Oops! I buttered that very quickly. I have already
pre-heated my grill so we can put it on there and I am doing it here on the stove. I am
using actually a griddle, put that down, take my cheese and place it on the bread and I
am going to use 2 slices. I just want to make sure I have good coverage. I am going to take
the bread and place it on my griddle like that and what you want to do is you want to
start kind of pushing it down. It’s always best though to use a flat utensil to do that.
You don’t want to use your hand. My hands are clean. I just washed them before I started.
What I am going to do is I am going to start pressing down on here. I am going to wait
for that bread to get kind of crispy. Now one of the things that you want to keep in
mind when you make grilled cheese is that you don’t have to make just cheese. You
can add bacon, sliced tomato. You can get creative and add pepperoni or anything like
that too, to make it just a little more interesting for your little ones. Also if you want to
make your kids try something that is a little different, you can add any sort of meat that
they have not eaten before; roast beef, corn beef, pastrami, anything like that. I love
meat on a grilled cheese. You can even add grilled onions. I don’t think we are quite
ready yet. I have the fire on pretty high. Let me turn it just a little higher. You can
turn it all the way up on high if you want to. That is alright as long as you are here
looking to make sure the bread has toasted. You always want to put in on a griddle or
a grill that is already hot; otherwise, you will be here all day making grill cheese.
I’ve already started to get some color; let’s see if I can show that to you. I’ve
got a little bit of color here on the bread. A lot of times your young ones don’t like
their bread toasted too much, so you don’t want to toast it all that much because they
won’t care for the bread. Now I think once we’ve got the top one done, the bottom one
is very quick. Ah, we’ve got some great cover, we’ve got some great meltage, make
sure you turn off your fire, bring it over to the plate, give it a good cut. You can
even cut it cross wise and I would serve this with some carrots and some celery and that
is how you make grilled cheese on the grill.
