Taking aim at training. During an NCO Professional Development Forum
at the Annual Meeting of the Association of the United States Army,
the Active Duty and Reserve Drill Sergeants of the Year
explained that the goal for new trainees is to have soldiers who think clearly, even
under the stress of battle. They are participating in combat field fires,
and they are engaging targets. That will require multiple kills, multiple
shots, for them to go down. No command is given from the drill sergeants.
They just know what positions they need to use,
and they make those changes all on their own. They have to load magazines, they have to
correct the malfunctions because there will be dummy rounds loaded
into the magazines. We took a civilian who had probably never
fired a weapon before and got him to this point.
These are the skills that they are coming to you with.
It's important that you do reinforcement training and sustain these skills
so that this will not be lost.
