Yeah, beautiful people! Beautiful people! Love!
[singing] It's a strange kind of graditude, a selfish attitude. Our fields, our factories
our houses you abundantly supply.
We've been gathered today, called by conscience, by commitment and by compassion. We're called
together today by justice and love and hope.
For an end to the violence and poverty that displaces so many people from their homes
and homelands, we stand on the side of love.
Because the only other reason people come here, in general, is family reunification:
I wanna be with my wife, my daughter, my son, like Lucretia Dominguez. Lucretia crossed,
and she crossed and she hired a smuggler, and the smuggler said, 'Whatever you do, don't
bring those two kids with you.' Jesus, the fifteen year old boy, and Laura the seven
year old girl. But she brought them anyways, and of course the smuggler charged for all
three. And the reason he didn't want them to bring them, they were gonna slow the group
down. So as they're crossing, they do slow the group down, so the smuggler says 'I'm
not giving you your money back, you cross on your own.' And as they're crossing, Lucretia
literally dies in the arms of Jesus, her fifteen year old son. Now is the time. Now is the
time for us to have humane immigration reform
We stand on the side of love!
Needless to say, this is something I think, too, about the issues that we'll all hear
about, about 'Well, this is, you know, these people are here illegally.' We have to understand
that the fact that something is legal or not cuts no moral ice whatsoever. I mean, Jim
Crow laws were legal, slavery was legal, apartheid was legal, it was legal to burn Michael Servetus
at the stake. You know, the execution of Jesus was legal in that system. What we're called
to do as people of faith is to change the law when the law is not just.
We stand on the side of love!
I too know what it is to feel like I'm not wanted, not needed and not recieved, and I'm
here today to tell you that you can beat any system.
We stand on the side of love!
Give us, oh God, compassion, and resolve.
