My name is Resa Sanders and I'm the program director here at Aging and Long Term Care.
This is Heather Vilar and she is my assistant. Some questions that come up would be what
does a home care aide do? What are their jobs. What kind of tasks would they have? You basically
are trained to assist your consumer in their home and the task that you would be assigned
to do would come after the supervisor case manager evaluates and talks to the consumer
client to see what the needs are. Heather could you expand on that?
Some of the activities that you would be asked to do may include transportation, bathing,
house hold chores, like doing laundry, cleaning, make sure they get transportation to the doctors
office and things like that that would help them keep, just be able to stay in their home
instead of having to go to a nursing home. Some of the other things that you might be
asked to do are things like Heather said housekeeping. Many times folks that are in their homes are
unable to make their own bed, clean sheets, do the laundry, or clean their oven as well
as assisting them making sure they take their medications, queing them and reminding them.
A lot of times just being in the home as a safety person to help that individual be able
to stay there. Many times this is the option of having them stay in their home versus ending
up in a long term care facility. And we would much prefer having them in their home.
