Let's say Hi to everybody... You know we have twelve participants
and we have eight countries. So that's really...
uh... we have great diversity
It's very important that we together uh... make up a safe space to learn
and we're going to practice this too in the workshop: how do you make it safe
for your participants when you're working in an organization
and you're with a team. So: how do you make people feel so comfortable
and safe that they are willing to share what they
really think: even when their boss is in the room, etcetera...
Even though they have a current culture that
discourages disagreement!
First you focus on people and you make sure that structures and processes
are supportive. It's a different approach than the big speeches with the red carpet and
the new mission statements - and not making it specific.
So, a lot of change fails because it's too abstract, too organization-wide
and it's great to tie it to the overall strategy but let's focus it on the daily behaviors:
keep it simple and stupid: what do we do, day to day,
why are you coming to work?
To help people do new behaviors and habits I use the circles, the workshops, the
small teams because people tend to copy each other
and they coach each other and they correct each other.
So, what I do: I started using the group dynamics, the patterns in groups
and how people influence each other.
(discussion with group) so you can hear those, so yeah,
the others are doing these behaviors (discussion) So: cynical comments, complaints in the hallways,
gossip...
Help people do the new behaviors, but this is the core:
the values, who we Are, what we Believe, what we Can (so maybe we need some extra skills)
what we Do and what we'll Do differently and we will
help each other in the Change Circle do it, and the Effect because we're not doing
this for fun but we want some results.
...and you know: we will be different...
We will be better... in Change!
