The safety rule is that sometimes you have to wait
when you want something.
But that you interrupt your grown ups and keep
asking if you have a safety problem.
One day Little Bear was playing while Mamma Bear
was busy, busy, busy on the computer.
Do your grown ups ever get busy, busy, busy?
And not have time to do something with you?
Yes, that happens.
And Little Bear said, "Mamma Bear, Mamma Bear!"
"What is it?" "I'm Busy."
"I want you to play with me."
"I'm sorry I have to get this done, you need to wait."
Sigh...
So Little Bear waited and waited and waited.
Suddenly she saw that the pot was boiling over on the stove!
Oh, dear. Do you think she should keep waiting and not
interrupt or do you think a pot boilong over on the
stove is a safety problem. Yes.
So she said, "Mamma Bear, Mamma Bear."
"Uhuh, Uhuh, I'm listening."
"The pot is boiling over on the stove!"
"That's nice honey."
Goodness, was Mamma Bear listening?
Did she hear what Little Bear was saying?
Do your grown-ups ever say 'uhuh, that's nice'
when they are not listening?
Yea, I do that too.
But what does Little Bear need to know
that Mamma Bear's paying attention.
That's right, she needs Mamma Bear to be looking
at her and talking to her.
Watch what she is going to do.
"But Mamma Bear, Mamma Bear the pots boiling over
on the stove!
"WHAT IS IT, I told you not to interrupt me
when I'm busy!"
"What should I do now?" Little Bear says.
And I'm going to whisper in her ear,
'keep asking until you get help.'
"But Mamma Bear, its about my safety."
"Oh, tell me what's the problem."
"The pot is boiling over on the stove!"
"Oh my goodness! So it is!
"Thank you for telling me."
And Mamma Bear went running off to get the pot
off the stove. So their supper would
not burn up.
