Welcome to Epi Info 7 training.
In this video you will learn to run a matched pair case-control analysis in
the visual dashboard.
A matched pair case-control analysis is a special type of case control analysis
in that each case is paired with one control.
I've loaded the dataset
and here's the line listing which has 100 records,
which means we have 50 case control pairs;
This is a very simple example.
We have a group ID variable that identifies the pair,
we have a case variable where a 1 means that it's a case
and a 0 means that it's a control,
and we have a variable called Exposure
that shows whether or not the subject was exposed to a particular disease
vehicle.
I'll close the line list
and go to the matched pair case-control gadget
and make the choices in a dialog box.
The exposure is Exposure
and case is Case
and last
the pair group ID is the group ID.
I'll click Run,
and we get 2x2 table that tells us how many pairs fall into each of
four categories.
Upper left is where both case and control were exposed.
Upper right is where the case was exposed but the control wasn't.
Lower right,
neither was exposed
and lower left is control was exposed and the case was not.
Below the table are statistics that help us determine whether exposure is
significant.
We have an odds ratio with confidence limits,
a McNemar test with the p-values and a Fisher Exact test.
The confidence interval indicates that the odds ratio is significantly greater
than 1.
On the right,
all the p-values are less than .05 so
So all the statistics suggest that this exposure is significant.
