Hello I am Mari Miyazawa.
Today I will make a Halloween bento box with bread.
If you toast bread with a waved-surface pan, you will get this kind of strip pattern on it.
I will make it look like a castle with this pattern.
The pan I used is a panini pan, but if you do not have one, it is ok.
So half the bento is full with side dishes. We will make some characters using bread, and that will go to the other half of the bento box.
I imagine castles with many towers.
So I will make a thick tower and two thin towers.
I will cut the bread as trapezoid shaped to make it look even bigger.
You can already make sandwiches with this or just spread some butter on it.
Cut the edge like this first and cut here at a tilt.
Place it into the bento box to check the length if that is okay.
This is a little too long, so I will cut it shorter to adjust the length.
Make two more and now we have a total of three.
Next let's make the top of the towers.
I will make that with ham. Cut the ham like this and roll it like this.
Place the bread in the ham. Now it looks like a tower. Make two more of this and you will have three complete towers.
Let's place them into the bento box.
But if you put thin bread in the box, it will look boring, so I would like to make it in 3-D.
So I will place some more dishes underneath the bread.
Bread absorb the moisture, so when you place some more dishes underneath, do not place watery foods.
I recommend fried stuff or something that is wrapped with a plastic wrap.
Today I am going to use fried noodle.
Noodle is easy to control the quantity. Okay, noodle is enough.
I would like to separate the noodle and bread with these silicon dividers.
Let's place the towers.
Place the tower in the middle first and the sides next.
Okay, the towers are ready. Next, let's make the castle wall.
prepare the egg sheet like this, and check the length of it with the bento box.
I would like to cut the egg at a tilt as well, and cut the top part a little round.
Prepare L-shape cookie cutter or you can use a knife and cut the top part like this.
We do not have the fried noodle in the bottom part of the bento, so there is space for the egg here.
Now it looks more like the castle.
To make the castle more impressive, I would like to design a face in the castle using nori sheet.
I will cut it with scissors. First, fold it into two like this. cut like this. You can make two eyes at the same time.
Make a mouth cutting like this.
That will go to the center of the tower, and the side of the towers, I will make some windows.
cut like so, and make the same size of square windows.
I will use mayonnaise to glue them, and place them onto the bread like this.
If you place the windows vertically, it will be a two story castle.
I would like to place Jack-O-Lanterns around here.
I will make it using carrots.
this is just boiled carrots with a pinch of salt.
There is a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter, but this is too big for the carrot.
In that case, I will use the V-part of the heart-shaped cookie cutter.
Just simply cut like this to make it a short stems and flat bottoms.
Now it looks like pumpkins.
Now I will make their eyes using a straw.
fold the straw into a triangle and cut like so.
the mouth part, I am going to use this cookie cutter, but if you don't have one, you can simply cut with a knife.
Now the Jack-O-Lanterns are ready.
Let's place it into the bento.
I think this yellow part is too simple, so I will place some letters using pasta.
You can buy alphabet-shaped pasta at any store, so I will use that kind here this time.
White noodle doesn't stand out with the yellow background, so I will use imitation crab cake in the background.
Split the crab cake into two like so. Let's place it onto the egg. I will place it not horizontally but at a tilt like this.
alphabet pasta is very fragile and I recommend you to select what you need before you boil them, and
prepare more than you need just in case.
When it gets dry, the pasta gets harder, so I would coat with butter and salt and pepper right after boiled.
I would like to express this bento box as the castle in the dark.
I cut this egg into quarter purposely to make it look like a moon.
I would still like to add stars.
I will be using sliced cheese and shape it into stars using the cookie cutter.
Place them in the dark background like so.
I would like to add a ghost to it too, and I found ghost chips at the store.
I will place them like this.
So how is my halloween bento box? You do not need to follow everything I do.
But just to add some of my ideas to your bento box, it will look very much like a Halloween theme.
