This year’s Spirit of Close To My Heart award winner
has a heart made of gold, hands ready to help, and a
will to succeed. I’m sure you’ll agree that Barb Carrico
from Lorton, Virginia, goes the extra mile—and more—every day.
This Senior Executive Manager is the go-to person when
you need a question answered, someone to bounce ideas off of,
or just a shoulder to cry on. Barb holds incredible Team
meetings for her MeriHearts Team members and hosts an
annual holiday tea at Christmas for Consultants in the
Baltimore-DC area. Barb has created a wonderful atmosphere
atmosphere of support and caring among Consultants in the region.
She also organizes swaps and constantly answers questions
on her Team’s Yahoo group site. Members of her Upline’s Team,
the Scattered Hearts, call her the “team mom,” as they
they know they can count on Barb for anything. Barb has been a
Consultant for 11 years and during that time has spread her warmth
and friendship far and wide. Her husband was in the military
and the family has moved a lot—she has Downline from coast to coast.
This taught Barb how to acquire loyal customers: through pure
dedication and fabulous customer service. Barb’s customers
are not just people who purchase scrapbooking supplies,
they are her friends! Barb constantly gives of herself.
When she hears of a Consultant who is ill, she organizes
relief efforts on their behalf, notifying fellow Consultants
where to send cards, gifts, and well-wishes. When one of her
Team members needed surgery, Barb accompanied her to the
hospital and then nursed her back to health in Barb’s own home.
When she heard of another Consultant who was stricken
with cancer, she enlisted the help of other Consultants
to pay her way to Convention that year. Barb sends handmade
cards and care packages to soldiers serving in the war.
As a volunteer “Chemo Angel,” she sends cards and gifts to
cancer patients. She also donates projects and stuffed animals
to hospitals and makes quilts for charitable causes.
Senior Executive Manager Amy Mayhew says, “We need more angels
like Barb in this world. If we all were able to do just a
small portion of what Barb does for others, the world would be
a much better place.” Barb has overcome many personal challenges
including major health issues. In spite of her own struggles,
Barb ensures that everyone around her is taken care of and
knows they are loved. Especially her family. Barb works hard
to balance work and family. She and her husband, Bill, didn’t
hesitate to take in their adult son who was struggling
because of the economy. She offered a hand with the
grandchildren when her daughter needed support. She makes
time to visit her mother in Florida. Her granddaughter,
Hannah, who was born in 2002 with a cleft palate, inspired Barb
to raise enough donations from her Close To My Heart customers
for four children to receive an Operation Smile surgery.
She printed silicone wrist bracelets to hand out and tracked
donations on her MyCTMH website with a thermometer. Barb met
her goal, raising over $1,000! Even with her family responsibilities,
this energetic woman continues to build a strong and profitable
business, running many crops and teaching workshops and classes.
She is a very hard worker and a model of integrity and strength.
Barb regularly averages over $2,000 in sales each month,
has been a Super Seller, was number eight in Top Sales in April
this year, and has earned two cruises. This humble Consultant
never *** her own horn, but quietly goes about her life,
helping everyone around her. Tina Sutton, who is Barb’s Upline, says,
“Barb has the biggest heart around and is the most giving person
in the world. She deserves this award more than anyone!”
Because of Barb’s numerous selfless actions, determination,
and caring way, she is our 2010 Spirit of Close To My Heart
award winner. Congratulations, Barb!
