>> What we need in this country is educators, and what we need is high level educators.
Education was always a really important thing in our household.
My mother and my father both taught.
We didn't have a lot of money, but there was never a question of the importance of education.
Our advisor was this guy named Jim Dohle who taught the Social Studies class.
He was a very smart, very cool guy.
And I had a crush on this girl, and he saw I had a crush on this girl.
He was like, well, why don't you go talk to her?
Well, she's with this dude who was clearly sort of the big man on campus.
Jim Doley said, he's a whole lot of nothin' - You're Reggie Hudlin.
And it was just like, wow.
That was not part of his job description, but it spoke to me as a human being.
That affected how I saw myself and how I carried myself.
Those are the things that made me who I am,
not just me as a filmmaker, but me as a parent.
We need a new generation of teachers to join those already in the classroom.
Teach.
