Reporter: Matt I'm going to start with you.
You got things going early you got that thirty yard strike.
You were able to beat Gochneaur up top... up towards the right corner.
You set the momentum for your team.
Uh... you guys lost two to one earlier in the year.
I felt like, that's what gave you guys the momentum
and... uh.. Bethel went one on one
later and made it two zero.
You know, just your thoughts on getting
things started off uh.. you know, with the goal?
Matt Dudley: Uh... when we came into we said
that we wouldn't have another game like that again.
We would not lose like that... like we did.
And all we did... we came out worked hard.
We knew the goals were going to come
just didn't expect it to come like that, so early.
So, we just worked hard and made sure we did the job.
Reporter: And how important was it for you two guys
to set the tune earlier and get back to back goals?
Honestly, within four minutes of each other
and go up two zero and kinda put their backs
against the wall early?
Kyle Bethel: I think it was very important
because like you said in the last game
we played... uh..you know, we couldn't get a goal early
and the confidence just, you know, rose as time went on.
And this time, [unintelligible] got the first goal.
You know, they kinda put their heads down
and, you know, we just took over from there.
Reporter: You know coach, what do you think the difference
was, you know, we kinda talked about it earlier.
From two or three weeks ago to today?
Head Coach: Eric Pogue, well I think... uh ..
we just took, we took em some.. uh..
I mean, we got beat pretty good by [IPFW]
and I think it was exactly what we needed.
We didn't deserve to beat them, they out beat,
they out everything us that game,
and I think it was a real... we had to take
a real hard look in the mirror
and uh... kinda figure out, you know, get recommitted
to the things that we needed to do.
And you know, we really wanted an opportunity
to play [IPFW] to make right the wrong
and you know, we knew if we came out and played,
stuck to our game plan we worked hard all week
on what our game plan was going to be
and we really stuck to it and you know,
we can be a very potent goal scoring attach
if were clicking on all cylinders and obviously,
getting two early goals, you know,
were tough to beat once we get goals early.
Reporter: And then you guys went into halftime
with the three zero lead. Came out
and they got a quick goal... ah.. you know,
what did you do to get that momentum back.
You knew they were in the game,
had some fans here they were fired up
and then you guys were able to get a goal back.
How did you switch that momentum and get that game
back to were you guys could get comfortable
and get a win out of it?
Pogue: Yeah... well we knew going into halftime
that... uh.. I mean, Their backs were up against the wall
and they were going to come out swinging against us
and uh... you know, so we knew we had
were going to have to absorb some pressure early on.
I think we got a bit unlucky with an on-goal
off [JT] shin...uh.. that went into the net,
redirected across the net, hit off John Timm's leg
and went into the goal.
So, those things happen, luckily, we had built
ourselves up enough a good cushion,
but we just got recommitted and refocused
and uh... you know, just stuck with
the game plan, we put in some fresh legs.
And uh... you know, we brought in our starters
back in and you know, they were able
to seal up the win and then, you know,
we were able to get some rest for guys for the next game.
Reporter: Absolutely and Matt you got
dinged up a little bit how are you feeling,
I know, you're going to get a days rest
you got all day today and Saturday.
Just touch on that a little bit.
Dudley: Yeah...towards the end they started
to get frustrated and leaving
like the [unintelligible]on every tackle they put on me.
So, I just tried to get out of the way with one.
I couldn't get out of the way rolled down
couldn't...it's big now, but it will be fine.
Reporter: And you know, coach we talked about as well.
You guys do... you had that lead
you don't want any, you know, silly things
you know, there was some tripping going on
the field, it's a big game, you know,
it's one and done or when you move on
and how do you keep those... those closer heads
from prevailing, and you know, keeping your guys
focused, you know, and not tripping back.
Keeping the momentum, keeping that lead,
and getting away with a victory and getting out of there.
Pogue: Yeah, I mean, it's difficult, I mean
because uh... you know, were a competitors
and their competitors, and I'm sure there was frustration
on their side and uh... you know, so, I mean,
I would expect nothing less for them to come out.
I just... I just, didn't want to see
any guys get injured and I wanted it to be a clean game.
You know... uh.. and so I think, for our guys
it was just a matter of, you know, cooler heads prevail.
I told the boys to let me do all the kinda of the chirping out there
and I'm sure you, unfortunately, you maybe
heard a few things so... uh... but I just
wanted to make sure that the boys... I don't mind
clean tackles, I love, you know, good hard physical play.
You know, I don't care what the score is,
but, you know, uh... some of it just got a little
out of control and we just didn't want to see
anyone get injured that might prevent
us from having a full squad
for the summer league championship.
Reporter: Absolutely, and you know, talking about the championship game
you guys are now in on Sunday
and you know, KC and Western are going to play her shortly.
No matter who you play what is it going to take
to go out there and get a victory?
Pogue: Uh... it's going to take our best effort of the year.
I mean, it's uh... everything is on the line.
Like I was telling you earlier, we really relish
the opportunity to play IPFW
cause we lost to them... uh... well I, I when we,
we had really good games against UMKC
and Western Illinois, and you know, we were able
to get two good results against them.
So I'm sure whoever wins today
is going to feel the same way about us.
Hopefully, they go out and beat each other up really bad.
Maybe go into double overtime, some penalty kicks,
uh... and uh..you know hopefully
they'll get real tired out, but you know,
Eric and Rick do a great job with their programs.
They got... their going to battle their tails off,
and whoever wins we know were going to have a tough game.
