"Make a precision decision with Precision Air. Trained professionals with

Erik Bryan here, owner of Precision Air & Heating. Since 1995, we have performed well over 250,000
service calls across the valley. We thought, what better way to share our experience and
know-how than answering some common homeowner questions. Adam in Phoenix asks, "Erik, I
have a new AC system so why are some rooms in my home still warmer than others?" Adam
that is a great question. Probably one of the biggest misconceptions when purchasing
a new air conditioning system is that it is going to correct air flow. Please understand
that a new air conditioning system has zero to do with the distribution of air into your
home. The CFM output, the cubic feet per minute per minute that air can be pushed out of your
equipment is the same on just about every typical residential air conditioning unit.
The distribution of air into your home is all involved with the duct system. A couple
of things that might cause problems and why you're still experiencing warm spots in your
home. Number 1 is poor insulation. Especially on the new manufactured homes with vaulted
ceilings. There's generally tons of areas inside the attic where the construction crews
simply didn't get adequate insulation put in there creates a hot spot. Another big one
they we find is broken, kinked duct work. We have many homes where you figure the average
life expectancy of an air conditioner is 10 - 12 years. Well so is the duct work. In 10
- 12 years the duct work has experienced fatigue, sagging, it's been kinked, its come apart,
there's leaks.....all kind of things that might be contributing to hot spots in your
home. One of the biggest ones is and probably one of the most disguised ones is infiltration.
Infiltration is any opening in your ceiling to your attic. For expample, supplies...the
supplies shooting out around those. Are they caulked? Are they sealed? Outlets, can lights...all
of these types of things...there's heat pushing from your attic. If there's an opening around
these they push into your home and can raise the temperature in your rooms. Insufficient
ventilation. 2 areas here real quickly. Attic ventilation...if your attic is not ventilated,
your attic is an oven. It's simply pushing heat into your home. Another big one is return
air. Most homes are only equipped with 1 return air in the home. This is where you place the
air filter. Bigger homes, a lot of different rooms, it's a great idea to add more returns
throughout your home so you can extract more heat out of your home. Thank you everybody
for sharing your questions. I hope this helps shed some light on keeping your home operating
properly and as efficiently as possible. If you have questions, regarding your A/C, heating,
plumbing or home performance needs, post your questions on our Facebook page and check back
