Alright, it's finally here! Google has finally done it. We now can set up custom URLs for
our Google+ pages. It's about time, right? Yeah. You're too excited. Well you actually
have to set it up Google's way. So basically it goes like this: Google tells us the URL
that we can actually have. It's a little frustrating, but at the end of this video I'm going to
show you a simple hack... I mean "work around" to give you more options than Google allows
us to have. So let's go ahead and take a look how to set up your custom URL for your Google+
page or for your personal profile. Alright, there's two ways to do this, the
first way is to login to your Google+ account, you're going to see this notification at the
top that you've been pre-approved. All you need to do is click the blue button that says
"get URL" and you're going to see this pop up here you can basically choose the name
that you want or request a different one in certain cases, sometimes it doesn't always
show up. And then also that you can agree to the terms of service, and then you need
to "change URL". Once that's done you need to confirm your URL for your page and you
do that by hitting the green button where it says "Confirm Choice", so let's go ahead
and do that. And it's that simple. You basically claimed it and you now have a custom URL.
The second way is if it doesn't, you don't see a pop up at the top, I actually see a
pop up, but you might not see a pop up at the top. There's another location that you
can actually change the URL, so you to the about section over here on the left-hand side,
click that. And then come down where it says links "Get URL" and it will bring this little
popup and you do the exact same thing that you did before. Agree to the terms of service,
you can pick the different name, and then you put "change URL". See? That was pretty
easy. Ok, last but not least, the "Work around"
now some of you might login to claim your custom URL for your Google+ page and you might
have gotten a screen like this. This is what happened to me, really. It basically says
many people in the world, Derral Eves, have the same name as you. Add a few extra letters
or numbers to this URL to get one that's unique to you. Now, come on. I'm the only person
in the world named Derral Eves that spells Derral the right way. Ok, but in the past
I basically had to set up other Google accounts to have other YouTube channels. Because back
in the past you could only have one Google account with one YouTube channel. Now with
Google+ this eliminates all the hassle you can actually have one Google account and have
as many YouTube channels as you want. Now here's the "work around" now, this only works
until Google changes the way that we actually choose our custom URL, so first off you need
to be aware that you need to proceed with caution. And that this only works with personal
profiles and not business pages. Now the first thing that you need to do is make sure that
you're logged into your Google+ page. You want to change your Google+ last name, now
I would suggest making your last name your middle initial then you need to logout of
Google+ and then log back in. Once you log back in you need to check the about section
and under the link tab you'll see the "Get custom URL". Now you can't use your first
name, last name I already tried that, it doesn't work. Google has reserved that for some reason.
So what you need to do is use your first name, middle initial, and then your extra letters
or numbers can be your last name. Once you get that custom URL you can change your name
back, now this is a very special note, you really need to understand this you can only
change your Google+ profiles name 3 times in 2 years, so you want to be careful. Ok,
one last thing before you go, I'd love to hear what you think about Google+ in the comments
below. Now I know a lot of you are frustrated, so put some of your thoughts and feelings
and also some of your questions. Because every Monday I'm going to have Google+ training
and Facebook training. And Thursdays, of course, is YouTube training. So make sure you subscribe
to my channel and check out all my other videos on my channel.
