Hello my name is Paul Minikin from fmhearingsystems.co.uk
Today I'd like to talk to you about the set up
of the Phonak Roger Call Centre Bundle.
This bundle can be used by anyone who makes telephone calls and needs
to keep their hands free for instance to use a keyboard.
The bundle works with the most common
type of set up you see in a call centre for instance
- a vista base station with a wired headset.
So here we have a typical set up
- an office telephone with a vista base station attached to it
and from there a wired headset plugged into the vista base
with an RJ11 socket, and that's an RJ11 socket
A little clear oblong plastic plug
When you use a wired headset with a typical phone
you press the 'headset' button and be connected, you will be able to hear
through the headset and speak through the microphone.
So to introduce the Phonakl Roger Call Centre Bundle
we are going to disconnect
the headset from the vista base station.
We are going to use the telephone adapter
which has got an empty RJ11 socket
the socket from the headset
put into the vacant socket and the other end of the phone adapter
You have got an RJ11 socket that plugs into
the vista base station. So from the phone adapter
we've got an audio feed coming out to the phone line
a 3.5mm audio jack. (like a headset connector)
So the next part of the set up involves
the docking station of the Roger Pen and the Roger Pen itself.
The Roger Pen has many uses.
Basically it transmit audio to some Roger receivers.
In a separate video we will cover how the Roger Pen
and the Roger receivers work together, but for the purposes of this video
to set up the Call Center Bundle we will concentrate on the docking station
and the Roger Pen. So basically the
Roger Pen docking station is an interface that can be used
to take the audio from your call centre bundle
and wirelessly transmit it straight in to your hearing aids.
The big benefit of this is that when you are wearing a pair of hearing aids
the audio from the phone
goes straight into both hearing aids, you have got the response of your hearing aids
which addresses your hearing loss as well as the fact that the phone call
that you hear goes into both your ears, a tremendous advantage
when trying to hear on the telephone.
The microphones on your hearing are still working
so you are still aware of the ambient sounds around you if a fire alarm goes off
or a colleague speaks to you but mainly you can concentrate
on hearing the telephone call with great clarity.
So, the docking station.
At the back of the docking station it's got a port
for charging and it's got a 3.5mm
audio port where you can introduce the audio from the telephone call
that you are trying to have a conversation with someone with.
So, from the phone adapter you have got the 3.5mm audio jack
you plug that into the back of the docking station
You can actually be charging up your Roger Pen
while using the telephone
but while it's charging you may occasionally
have a slight delay when connecting telephone calls.
To avoid any slight delay if that becomes troublesome
just remove the charging plug from the docking station
and you won't experience any delays at all when you receive a call.
For instance with this particular model of phone when press the headset button
you'll be connected immediately to the telephone call.
The people that you are speaking to
you will be able to hear them and they will be able to hear you.
So, the Roger Pen, for the purposes of
using with the Call Centre Bundle
all you need to do his place the Roger Pen on the docking station
make sure it's seated properly there's a little connection there, a little bit of a push.
The microphone slot, the thin slot there
needs to be to the front where the Phonak logo is.
You can try to put it sideways or back to front, but obviously it's not going to fit.
So basically you put it in with the microphone slot to the front there
make sure it's seated properly and then the system
is ready to go. Basically when you need to make or take a phone call
you will answer your telephone in the normal way.
The only other differences with the headset.
Instead of the headset being placed over your head
with the boom microphone placed to your mouth you will instead
place the heaset around your neck
with the boom mike towards your mouth, because essentially
with the with the headset you won't be using the headset to hear.
You will be able to hear the phone call direct
into both your hearing aids and headset will only be used
for the microphone so people that you are speaking to
can hear you clearly. They won't notice any difference at all,
they will be able to hear you exactly the same
but you will be able to hear them far, far better
by using this equipment.
So, this is how you would normally wear a headset
in a call center setting. You have got your hands free, your headset is over your head
with the microphone at the side of your mouth.
With this particular application with the Roger Pen and the docking station
you take the headset off and place it around your neck and just make sure
the microphone is positioned properly.
In every other way you are answering calls in the same way.
People can hear you but you can hear the person at the other end a lot better.
Other people can use your equipment,
the Roger Call Centre Bundle can just sit there waiting to be used
and you can actually transfer it from
desk to desk if you wish, it's pretty portable.
Regarding the Roger Pen, if you decide you want to
walk around the office with it and have the benefits
of the Roger system in meetings, talking to colleagues, where there is background noise,
reverberent environments, hearing at distance, very simply
you pull the Roger Pen off its docking station
and use it as you would normally use it in the different types of environments.
The the use of the Roger Pen we cover in a separate video.
