Hello everyone! We are here now in the showroom of Voglia.
It is a brand new showroom for the furniture, indoor and outdoor furniture on Jumeirah Beach Road
I am here with my friends - Neil Munro and Diarmuid O'Malley.
You guys are both experienced marathon runners can you also tell me about your experience so far
Yes, so far I have run 6 marathons and one "ultra" marathon around London, Edinburgh, Dubai, Cape Town ... and Diarmuid?...
I run 8 marathons to date. 3 of them "ultras" Two Oceans at South Africa twice and also
the Wadi Bih in Oman 72 kilometres. So quite a bit of experience but all the time still learning.
And now you doing something even more extreme - Polar Marathon at quite low temperatures.
Can you tell us a bit more?
Yeah, look we decided, Neil and I we've been talking and we decided once to do something
completely different and completely off the wall. So we decided "lets find the
remotest part of the world" and signed up for the Polar Circle Marathon in October.
Yes, and it is quite extreme event - running a marathon is a quite challenging in itself,
of course. This event will be the temperature of the snow will be minus 20 degrees,
"slightly" different from Dubai, where it regularly gets to plus 40 degrees. So quite an extreme challenge.
And all the proceeds for this event are going to Christina Noble Children's foundation.
And that will be funding a school in Vietnam,
Sunshine School in Vietnam
Can you just tell us more about it?
I think from early age, being Irish I was introduced to the book "Bridge across my sorrows"
which is based on the life of Christina Noble, who brought up on the streets of Ireland,
streets of Dublin. Very, very hard, difficult life. She devoted all her life to getting
the kids in Vietnam off the streets. So it's a woman who hugely impressed me from the early age.
When Neil and I decided to do this marathon we wanted to do it for Christina Noble Foundation
to make a significant amount, to raise a significant amount for the foundation, which we are looking to achieve
Can you give us more details about where exactly the money will go, how will they be spent?
The money goes straight to the Sunshine School, which is sponsored by Christina Noble
Children's foundation. It is a school in Vietnam that literally does everything for the kids
It educates them, it teaches them social skills, skills that they need if they
cook and look after themselves. Every single dirham, dollar or pound - whatever currency
you want to give to us is going straight to the fund for that school. The cost of running
that school... and it is 200 children. We make a real difference to 200 children's lives.
The cost of running it is around 50,000 dollars mark for the whole year of funding.
And we are determined to exceed that.
Excellent! That's fantastic! So can you tell us, can you give us the details how
people can contribute to this great cause?
They can donate directly to www.justgiving.com/arcticxtreme There is a number of other events that happening
through our Facebook. www.facebook.com/arcticxtreme Our next event is in Voglia on Jumeirah Beach Road,
opposite of Sunset Mall on the 14th and 15th of June. So all the proceeds
for those two... all the profits for those two days are going directly to Arctic Xtreme.
So we encouraging people coming to the shop and not only they will be able to donate to
this fantastic school and help make a difference for 200 kids in Vietnam, they also will be
able to walk away with something fantastic that will look great in their home.
Thank you very much for your time and good luck for your great cause!
Thanks again, Rafik
