The Garden Common Expansion day. Everything’s ranging from staining
the new benches we have for students out hereand share the experience
and the calm feeling of being within the garden and we are also planting
a lot of vegetables today, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, and an herb
garden on the side of the building.
Also today we have a green house being built over behind the cultural center
and also a composting setup for educational purposes.
I’m really excited about the expansion we’re really, really thankful to
AkzoNobel and Ace and everyone who’s sponsored us and we’re really,
really grateful to the university for letting us expand and letting
us use the cultural center.
We’ve had a lot of supporters from ButtonSeeds and AkzoNobel ,
Gagel Truck farms become partners with Sudexo here at UofL.
I got involved with garden commons just kind of because I was
was interested in local food and growing my own food and knowing
where my food comes from and finding sustainable sources kind of
of for what I eat. It’s really really great to see all
of our hard work and formation in this expansion project and kind of
see it take off and see students get involved is what we’re really hoping for.
A good reason I got involved with this garden is because I am very
passionate about gardening, I come from a farming family and I missed it
when I came to UofL, just a part of me didn’t feel right here.
And then as soon as the garden started up and
I heard about it and was excited about it, I just had to be a part of it.
