Hello! My name's Andrew and I'm a teacher with the Englishdom and I'm here to do a podcast
on sweatshops. Not a very nice subject, as sweatshop is like a big factory where many
people work, maybe children even, and they work long, long hours for very, very little
pay. Indian, Thailand and Asian countries can be quite famous for sweatshops. Lots of
big corporations actually run sweatshops or maybe some of the clothing we are wearing
and I'm a bit of a hypocrite, this is made by Nike, so this was maybe made in a sweatshop
or maybe not, I'm not sure. I'll leave you to judge on that one. Quite simply we do have
a few idioms attached to sweatshops and it's usually with regards to working very hard
and very long hours. Like in Britain, let's just say, if you work in McDonald's and you
do 12 hour shift and it's very hot and you might say it's like a sweatshop there. It
means that there are many people working in there with burgers, throwing burgers around
and getting very hot and you're probably not getting paid a lot of money if you're working
in McDonald's and that's the only idiom I can really think of. Sweatshops, women, children,
low pay, maybe men as well, clothing the main thing and on the other side of it maybe McDonald's,
Burger King, Pizza Hut... Who knows, any of these type of places could be called a sweatshop
if you work in there. That's all on sweatshops. I hope you understand
what a sweatshop is. Thank you very much for listening. Feel English
and feel free. That's all from me, poetry.
Bye-bye!
