Hello I'm Dr. Felicia and I'm here to speak to you about how to establish relocation ideas
to your children after divorce. Now it's very difficult that the family is divorcing in
the first place and usually children are very insecure and have a lot of anxiety in and
around the divorce but when one family has to move in particular and the child needs
to move to a new location altogether, it's very, very high anxiety time for that child.
So what you want to do is assure the child that you are going to stay in contact with
their old friends, perhaps you'll get them a little phone book of their own so they can
keep the phone numbers and addresses of all their friends and collect them. You want to
be sure to bring their special belongings with you to that new location whatever that
is. If they have a particular pet that they like, perhaps they had a particular item in
the backyard like a tree or a tree house even that you might be able to take down and reestablish
in the new location. And by all means you want to let them know that they are going
to be able to maintain friends with their former friends. You might do this by having
a friend over for a weekend or having sleepovers. So please align up all these arrangements,
allow your child to take their phone numbers and addresses, allow them time to collect
their personal belongings that they want to bring with them. And perhaps make future arrangements
for visitations overnight with their other friends that they are leaving behind. With
that in mind I wish you good luck in your relocation and the more assured you can be,
the more assured your child will be. So please put on a happy face for their sake. God Bless.
