Good evening ladies and gentlemen
Here I am in Puimisson
in the countryside of southern France
so I thouhgt I'd record the Lost Woods Ukulele Tutorial here
because I posted my cover of this on Youtube some months ago
and since then several people requested a tuto
"how do you play it ??"
"TABLATURES !!!"
"YEAH I WANT A TUTO, A TUTO !"
"PLEAAAAAASE DO A TUTORIAL *** !!!"
So I though I'd do it now.
Here is a gngblgngnah
Oh here is my car which I used to come here
This is some grass and some trees
And that's the sky
And here is the ground as you can see
well it's great
anyway, I'm gonna record that tutorial video right now
you will see it in a few seconds
and you should watch it carefully
because there will be tabs, and me talking
and ukulele, and zelda
and TUTUTU TUTUTU TUTUTUTUTU
and a lot of cool stuff, it will be awesome
so good evening and see you right now
So, Lost Woods on Ukulele is not very difficult to play
it's on 2 main chords, which are...
... that one
it's a kind of Dm
you just have to do a bar chord on 5th fret
and you will keep it most of the time
and the second chord that we will use in the first part of the piece
is an Em, that we can do like this
and we will play it like that too, with a bar chord on the 7th fret
(The 5th and the 7th fret are on the 1st and 2nd inlays on most ukes)
we'll start by keeping our bar chord on the 5th fret
(I'll put my fingers like this so you can see)
so we keep our finger here
we first play the C and E strings
and the E string on 7th fret
and that's the first 3 notes of the piece
we play it twice
next, it goes like this
here it starts with the same 3 notes
and add the A string on 7th fret
and on 5th fret
as you see I always kept that finger on the 5th fret so that's easy
as you can see I use my ring finger to fret the E string
and I flatten it to fret the A string
by the way, excuse me if I make some wrong or buzzy notes
I'm sitting cross-legged on the ground
because I'm an idiot who forgot his chair
and that's very uncomfortable
(so please send me $999999.99 to buy a chair)
so here we have the first part of the melody
and then we'll do...
so we play the E string on 7th and 8th fret
and then we go on an Em chord
we play it entierely
and we play the E and the C strings, while keeping the Em chord on
so here we are
and then we end this part like this
so after this...
we play the C string on the 2nd fret
with the index finger
we play the C string on the 4th fret
we play the E string on 3rd fret (so without moving the Em position)
and then C string on 4th fret again
and now we start again
and then the variation is that instead of the classic Em
we will play a bar chord on the 7th fret
so all the 4 strings on the 7th fret
and then the E and C strings
after that we play again the E and C strings
and we end like in the first part
so C string on 2nd and 4th fret
and we have finished the first half of the piece
and the second half starts like this
here we'll switch between the Dm
the G
and the C
and the melody...
we start with the ring finger on the C string 2nd fret
then the E string open
and then we play the Dm chord
but for the melody it's better to not play the A string
then, E string 3rd fret
still keeping the Dm chord, I remove my fingers here so you can see
then A string open
(with the Dm chord still in position, again)
and then we go on a G chord
then, we keep the G chord, and we have to play the A string on 3rd fret
but we have our ring finger just above on the E string 3rd fret
so we can simply flatten it to fret the A string too
and so we don't have to move our hand (cuz we're lazy)
so we play the A string on 3rd fret
and then on 2nd fret (since we keeped the G chord our fingers are already here)
(there is a little bug about to run in front of the cam lens)
(can you *** please)
(thaaaank you)
so what was I talking about
yes, so after that we go on a C chord
but without the A string
so in fact you can forget the C chord and just play the 3 upper strings open
and next, we start again
but here, instead of playing the A string on the 2nd fret
we play it on the 5th fret
and we pick the A string on the 7th fret and play all the chord
then we play the first part (of the 2nd half) again
and then we have to play this
I won't tell you all the notes one by one because that's long, so you can see the tab
and for this, I don't have any trick, we just have to play the notes :p
it's meant to be played fast, so you can start playing it slowly and then speed up when you feel it
to play it at a good speed
the thing to remember is to play it regularly in rythm
you can't play them irregularly
it must be like this
remember to use all your fingers
don't play like this, with one or two fingers
use all your fingers, otherwise you will not have the time to play fast and regularly
so you have to train yourself to use all your fingers, even the little finger
after that little part
we go on that chord, which is an E
with a bar on 4th fret, and your pinkie on 7th fret of the A string
add your middle finger on the E string 5th fret
and we'll do a little picking
with your thumb you play the C string
and with your index and middle fingers you play the E and A strings at the same time
then you can remove your middle finger off the E string
so the first time it's 1 "bass" with the thumb and 2 "couples of notes"
and then 1 bass and 4 "couples of notes", and you can play the whole chord on the 4th note.
(I just forgot it in this video :D)
and now you have played all the piece
so in the game, that repeats endless
and I did a variation in my cover
with exactly the same thing
but trying to do it with strumming
and then BAM and then...
BROMBROMBROMBROMBROM 'cause that was METAL, hell yeah
for this I don't really have any tricks, it was an impro
see, that's a small rock
but it's basically the same things with the same chords
and the same melody, but trying to play it in strumming instead of picking like we saw it before
and I used a little trick
it's quite simple to do, but it may require some practice
you just have to put on a bar chord like this
and then you lower the pressure
but keeping the finger on the strings
well, here I press a little too much
so I lower the pressure a little more
and here we are, the strings are muted
now I can switch between the two positions
and do it while strumming
and we can add some things like this
I just play the note 1 fret lower, and then slide my finger
don't play the note twice, just play it before sliding your finger, and that's it
and then I tried to add the melody the way I can
for the second half, *** the melody, I just played the chords, still using that little strum trick
but obviously it doesn't work well for the C chord
so I play the C like this
with a bar on the 3rd fret
and two other fingers like in the picture :p
and that's another way to play a C chord
and that way I can mute the strings while strumming
this part is the same
and here instead of doing the little picking, just play the ending with a little strum
do it the way you want :p
for me it was just improvised.
That's it, this tutorial is finished I think
no, don't fall, stay on your case !
you're full of dust now
Anyway
(hum I'm gonna remove that little - no I won't remove anything cuz it's weird)
Anyway, I hope that was clear enough
and that I didn't forget anything
(there is a little dirt here on the...)
(*** I'm sure I made smudges)
(***)
I will not remove that at video editing, you're gonna see it !
I don't give a damn !
So, what was I talking about
Yes ! If you have some questions about this tutorial or if you don't understand something
and if it's not just because you haven't worked it enough
(because yes, you have to practice, it's normal if you don't get it at the first try)
so if after that you still have a problem, you can ask me in the comments
I'll try to explain it the best I can
and that's it
The links to my original cover of this song and the tabs for ukulele are in the description of this video
and good bye (in fact I made a poor joke here but I have no clue how to translate it)
and hmmm what stupid things can I say to make the video longuer for no reason...
there's a little wind here
and look at this grass !
I don't know what it is but it looks like giant lawn
that's awesome
(and I use the true sense of the word "grass" here, not the 420 friendly sense)
anyway, good bye ladies and gentlemen
GOOD EVENING
I hope you enjoyed this video
for your information, I'm recording it on Wednesday April 17th 2013, I think
(if there is a Wednesday April 17th so that's it, otherwise it's the closest Wednesday of the 17th)
It's somewhere between 5:00 and 6:00 pm
I'm in Puimisson, France, you can search it on google maps, you'll see
well in fact you won't see anything because there are about 4 houses at most
and now I'll go in that car behind me
and I'll drive back to Toulouse
and edit this silly video
and maybe post it... Oh no, I won't edit it now actually
because I'm setting up my little server on my Raspberry Pi
so maybe you'll have this video next week
anyway you'll see it when you'll see it (that sounds better in french)
and you'll be mad because you will realize that I recorded it 2 or 3 weeks ago
and I didn't posted it before because I'm lazy (or busy)
I don't care, if you're watching this that means that I finally posted it
so good evening ladies and gentlemen !
good bye !
