We cross live now to Wellington where our political reporter
Irena smith is standing by to fill us in on other Treaty news.
Irena, what's the latest in Treaty news?
Well Minister Finlayson reach a milestone last week
in approving the mandate
for our biggest iwi Ngapuhi that has now resulted
in a backlash where descendants of Ngapuhi who do not support
the signed-off Tuhoronuku mandate
will take to the streets of Kaikohe tomorrow marching
from the local RSA to Te Kotahitanga Marae
to confront Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples who also signed off
on that mandate last week.
Will the minister get through all the settlements in time?
He should do as he's been given an extension to settle the claims.
Here's what he told me earlier;
That will begin tomorrow.
Three iwi will be in the house for the second reading of their claims.
I'm talking about the iwi of Te Tauihu o Te Waka a Maui,
Ngati Raukawa and Maungaharuru Tangitu.
Thank you Irena Smith, live from Wellington.
