Here is a broadcast by Joe Hockey for the Liberal Party for the 2013 Federal Election
One of the fundamental challenges facing Australia is the need to restore the nation's finances.
This year the Government will spend 125 billion dollars more than when the Coalition was last
in office while Government debt will reach 300 billion dollars by Christmas, surging
towards 400 billion dollars in the coming years.
And very soon the Government will be forced to increase the national debt ceiling.
We can't go on like this. Australia's record debt will cost us an average of 10 billion
dollars in interest each year.
Australia cannot afford to keep recklessly spending money and mortgaging our future.
The Coalition is determined to get the Budget back under control. We did it last time we
were in office and we will do it again.
It starts with cutting the waste such as the 11 billion dollar cost blow-out on illegal
boat arrivals.
Only by getting the budget under control and repaying the debt can we protect the economy
from future economic shocks.
The Coalition's determination to repair the budget is a fundamental part of our clear
economic plan. We will deliver a stronger economy and a stronger Australia.
