>> Founded in 1969 as a part of the university's response
to sweeping social change,
the Purdue Black Cultural Center has grown into the focal point
for African American experience and a force
for cultural enrichment and intellectual growth of all
who passed through its portal.
The Black Cultural Center provides purposeful, holistic,
scholarly, and co-curricular programming designed
to strengthen understanding of African American heritage.
The BCC is home to an impressive African art collection featuring
authentic African artifacts, wood carvings,
masks and ceremonial pieces.

>> Established between 1971 and 1975,
the Black Cultural Center Performing Arts Ensembles
comprise a university-wide arts education program.
New Directional Players is a theatrical company
that presents thought provoking drama
about the African American experience.

That is as long as we let you because you are going
to come back with his own guitar and you are going to have

>> Jahari Dance Troupe is trained in traditional
and contemporary dance styles ranging from African,
ballet, tap and modern dance.

>> Haraka Writers are committed to the literary expression
of African American experience through poetry,
short stories and essays.

>> And the Black Voices
of Inspiration whose award winning repertoire includes
spiritual, gospel, jazz
and contemporary songs of inspiration.
The four ensembles use the arts to examine, explore,
and commemorate the experiences and contributions of people
of African descent throughout the African Diaspora.
The Black Cultural Center Library houses more
than 7,000 volumes and is a treasured resource.
The Black Cultural Center stands as a tribute
to the total commitment and courage of all those who dared
to dream and work to forge the reality of a vital
and vibrant Black Cultural Center.
