There are patients who come into the office noting blood in the urine and that's quite
an alarming symptom and patients are concerned, you know, could this be a cancer of some kind
in the urinary tract. Blood in the urine can be due to a variety of different factors,
benign conditions or sometimes malignant conditions. The common benign conditions that would cause
blood in the urine would be a urinary tract infection, passing a small stone which could
rub or irritate the urinary tract leading to some blood in the urine, men can have prostate
enlargement that can lead to occasional blood in the urine, there are some kidney conditions
that can lead to blood in the urine, but this should be evaluated because we have to make
sure that there is no growth or tumor along the urinary tract.
