On the day of your discharge we plan to transfer you to the Discharge Lounge at Royal Derby
Hospital, where you will wait to go home, or to another hospital. You will receive excellent
care and attention in a safe, comfortable and homely environment, while your bed on
the ward can be used for other patients.
The Discharge Lounge is located adjacent to Ward 205 on the second floor at Royal Derby
Hospital and is open from 7.30am to 7pm, Monday to Friday and is staffed by qualified nursing
staff and a health care assistant to look after your needs. Our telephone number is
01332 787536.
The Discharge Lounge has comfortable easy and reclining chairs and 3 bed bays with pressure
relieving cushions and footstools if you need them.
There is a television, radio, newspapers, magazines and books for your enjoyment. Toilet
facilities are also available, including disabled facilities if needed.
Free snacks, hot and cold drinks, are available throughout the day.
The Discharge Lounge staff will liaise with the appropriate carers, ward staff, pharmacy
and transport staff to ensure your safe and smooth discharge.
If you have not already been given your tablets, we will order and collect them from pharmacy
for you. The nurse will explain your medication to you.
If you are being collected by relatives or friends, we can inform them where you are,
and where they can park free of charge for 20 minutes when they pick you up. If you are
being collected by ambulance, we will also inform them where you are, and they can park
nearby to make it quicker and easier for them to collect you.
If you have any queries or concerns, a member of the Discharge Lounge staff can come and
visit you on the ward. You are also welcome to come to the lounge to see us, but please
check with your nurse before you leave the ward.
We look forward to meeting you and ensuring that you have a safe discharge.
