Now we'll go on with two letters that use the descenders space. The letter y. Now I'm
going to make a y that looks like a u. So the first stroke very much like the u. The
second stroke down into the descenders space and then a hook, similar to the hook that
we put on, almost identical to the hook we put on the g. So one; two; three. One; two;
three. Now the letter j is going to use a descenders space but in a different way. The
letter j and the letter y used to be the same letter. So they were written in a similar
way and the only distinguishing feature was one got dotted and the other one didn't. So
our j actually started out as an i and the italic j keeps that and the way that the italic
j resembles the i is it's pretty straight and it only has just a very minimal stroke
at the bottom. So were starting in the x height and going down and as we move the pen in this
direction, as we move it this way, it tapers.
