Hi! This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I'm here to talk to you about
what to do when you feel a cold coming on. Now you know the feeling, all the sudden you
don't feel so hot or maybe you do feel hot, you feel kind of weak, your nose gets congested,
you have a slight cough and you think, oh no I've got a cold. So what should you do?
The first thing you should do is chill out, all the stress that you have is going to contribute
to, if you do have a cold, it's going to contribute to making it even worse. So make a point of
relaxing, that's the time to take a day off and go to bed. Rest is the most important
thing at this point, if you get enough rest right at the beginning, you may just keep
that cold from every really developing. Another thing you should do is make sure you do everything
you can to boost your immune system, drink plenty of water, take lots of vitamins, make
sure that whatever you eat is healthy and then get that rest. Bed rest is the most important
thing. Some doctors also recommend taking Zinc, at the first signs of a cold, Zinc akinesia
and I find that to help, although there is not scientific proof that it definitely works.
You can do a nasal rinse which is going to clean out your nose and help you breathe more
easily and relax and you'll feel better. A hot shower can also be helpful because it
will help you relax, it'll kill the germs and it'll help you open up your respiratory
system. The first day that you have those symptoms, is the most important point in how
the cold will or will not develop. So if you take emergency procedures right away, you
may find that the cold will be much lighter or it may not even happen.
