[Caption: Olivia Maragna - Winner 2012 Female Excellence]
>> Olivia Maragna: My biggest fear is the fear of failure and there's been a lot times
throughout my career where I've thought, you know,
am I kidding myself? What am I actually doing? Is this all going to fall in a big heap? And
it's going to be an absolute failure.
I think the biggest belief that I had was that I was too young to actually be an adviser.
At the time I was twenty-six years of age,
and it was an over-powering belief that there is no way that I'm actually good enough to
actually step up and be in an advising role.
And fear of rejection and, it may be a female thing that we hate rejection, and I think
that is an obstacle to actually advising,
is that, if we are taking or dealing with clients and giving them strategies, we don't
want them to turn around and say,
"no I actually don't like that" or "no, I'm not actually going to become a client or an
on-going client."
What I would say to the younger me at twenty-six years of age, struggling with all the barriers
of moving into an advising role is that,
if you are experiencing concerns or the barriers, is to actually seek help. Talk to people in
the industry. Get yourself a mentor.
Get the support around you to actually help build your confidence, because that's, I think,
the key in actually moving or transitioning into an advising role.
I think it comes back to having the belief in yourself that, you know, you do add value,
you are changing lives in the industry and you're really making a real difference.
