I've been so fascinated by this conversation that I decided I would try it.
Mary Ellen, I've really enjoyed reading and learning
more about considering the needs of all
when considering the different
kinds of interactions in online courses
especially with audio delivered electronically
for any participants who could be deaf or hard-of-hearing
As I use audio tools more and more my own teaching, I hadn't really considered
that in
any depth. In working with a partially deaf student last year
I began to work with him in dictating and listening to himself
-- hoping that in learning to speak clearly enough for a speech to text tool like Dragon
Naturally Speaking
to record his work, that his everyday .speech would improve
By the way, yes it did. He came to love to publish oral recordings of his work
so much that we couldn't get him to stop.
I hadn't thought about his needs though if I included an
audio artifact in an online course situation.
I was astonished (but perhaps not surprised)
by Google's caption and accessibility features.
I guess we're all going to have to become more inclusive in our teaching.
So thank you Mary Ellen, Jennifer, and all.
I've had fun doing this!
