Whats going on guys, my name is entak, and welcome back to another episode of learning
the game. Learning the game is a series on my channel dedicated to guiding you through
war thunder and helping you as you progress through the game. If you have yet to see my
other learning the game videos, you can find the series playlist in the description below.
In the last episode we discussed how to land, the various landing situations, and we also
discussed takeoffs. Today we will be discussing the various types of aircraft you find in
game to better help you understand the planes and help you decide what planes you might
like flying more or what might best suit your playstyle. We will also discuss those plane
type's sub-classes of planes, and what roles the planes are best suited for. This video
will serve as an introduction of sorts to the various types of aircraft in game and
a look at their general purposes. If you are new to the game, welcome to the game. You
may find this video helpful when you are deciding what you may want to try out, however, it
will be best if you try the various types and find what you like but also dont be afraid
to try new things. In future videos we will discuss the specific types of planes more
in depth, discuss strategies, discuss their strengths and weaknesses, and more.
In game you will find many various types of aircraft such as fighters, fighter bombers,
attackers, and various types of bombers. There are fighter aircraft such as fighters, naval
fighters, fighter bomber aircraft, heavy fighters, rocket-powered fighters, and jet fighters.
Fighter aircraft are designed to combat other aircraft. While there are specific types of
fighters such as the P-47 which is classified as a fighter bomber which has secondary capabilities
of doing massive amounts of damage to ground targets, most fighters are mainly best suited
to do combat against other aircraft. Most fighters are designed to be fast, have good
maneuverability or unique fighting styles, and have decent weaponry. As I said, most
fighter aircraft have armament designed to do combat with other aircraft. In War Thunder,
the fighter's role is to establish air superiority over the enemy and aid in the efforts of the
ground units through air superiority and by protecting them from enemy fighters and bombers.
So what are the various types of fighters best suited for? As I said, fighters are designed
to do combat with other aircraft. Heavy fighters such as the Do-217, are designed to carry
more or larger guns, be able to withstand heavy amounts of damage before they are brought
down, most of the time, but not all of the time, are also equipped with turrets for added
defense, and are often designed to inflict more damage with the added armament. Some
heavy fighters do trade maneuverability and or speed for these added features.
Naval fighters are fighters that are carrier-based. The have tail hooks which allow for nice landings
on carriers which can allow you to rearm and repair on carriers. For more information on
carrier landings and how to do a proper carrier landing, watch the last episode of learning
the game. Fighter bomber aircraft such as the P-47s,
are fighters that are well equipped to handle the role of a fighter but also can easily
accomplish the secondary purpose of ground attacking. They generally allow for the additional
installation of rockets and bombs. Using the P-47 for example, we find that we are able
to additionally install and equip both bombs and rockets. The P-47 is able to get a rather
siginificant additionally payload. Fighter bomber aircraft allow for diversity and the
ability to change your armament easily depending on the map or mode you may be playing.
Rocket-powered fighters and jet-powered fighters are later-game aircraft.
Rocket-powered fighters such as the current in game Me-163 and Ki-200, are unique fighters
that can sustain very quick maneuvers, dive exceedingly well, are equipped with heavy
armament but limited ammo, have a great climb rate and a small profile, but they do come
with a very specific style of gameplay and specific trade-offs. Rocket-powered fighters
are characterized by their lack of fuel but also by their ability to glide. These types
of fighters are very good to use but do require fuel management and require you to get used
to this specific unique style of gameplay. When you are able to use these, definitiely
do. They are amazing and very fun to use. Jet-powered fighters are characterized by
their high speeds, climb rates, dive rates, flight-abilities, some by their maneuvering,
some by their heavy armament, and all generally by their overall great performance. The F9F
for example, is a great overall naval jet fighter that can carry both bombs and rockets
which makes it great for secondary ground attacking as well as overall dogfighting.
Alongside the fighters we also see attacker style aircraft. Attackers are generally equipped
well to attack ground units with more precision than that of some of the heavier or even medium
bombers. There are varying types of attackers in game as well. Some are faster than others,
some have very heavy armament such as the hs 129B-3 with its 75mm cannon, and some are
slower but well balanced in terms of armament. Attackers do a great job at ground attacking,
can be hard to take down, and can also be capable of fighting if needed.
In game we also have bomber type aircraft. There are light bombers, medium bombers, heavy
bombers, dive-bombers, bombers also capable of using torpedos, a jet bomber, and flying
boats such as the H6K4 and PBY. Light bombers such as the Russian Su-2 series
are bombers that are sometimes well equipped in terms of bomb payload, for example, the
SU-2 series is capable of equipping 12 50kg bombs or even 6 100kg bombs. Light bombers
are usually small and fast with the ability to maneuver better than their larger counterparts.
Medium bombers are somewhat larger than the light bombers but still may be smaller than
heavy bombers, usually recognized by their two engines, and are able to carry a medium
sized payload compared to that of the lighter and heavier bombers. Medium bombers are generally
less maneuverable than lighter bombers but more so than heavier bombers. In war thunder
for example, the B-25J-1 medium bomber is more maneuverable, has a total of 5 turrets
and the ability to carry 3 1000 pound bombs while the B-24D is much larger and has 8 turrets
with the ability to carry up to 8 1000 pound bombs. Medium bombers are great for destroying
pillboxes, some naval units, large columns of ground units, destroying specific bombing
point objectives and even airfields if done in large squads or long missions.
Heavy bombers are large, somewhat slow, able to carry large bomb loads, they generally
have four engines, are generally equipped with multiple turrets for great defense, and
can be rather difficult to shoot down. In War Thunder, heavy bombers generally have
higher battle ratings and rankings. Heavy bombers are great for destroying large columns
of ground units, naval units, bombing point objectives and airfields.
In game we also find the unique float plane style bombers such as the PBY and H6K4. These
are planes capable of touching down in the water, are rather slow, are large, but can
also carry heavy payloads for their tier and battle rating. For example, the PBY is capable
of carrying up to 4 1000 pound bombs as well as multiple heavy torpedos.
Speaking of torpedos, we also find planes in game that are classified as torpedo bombers.
These are planes that allow for the installation of torpedos which are used against naval units.
One of the most notable planes currently in game capable of equipping a torpedo is the
beaufighters. These are heavy fighters that are able to carry a torpedo. We will discuss
the various way to bomb including torpedo bombing in videos to come.
Another type of bomber we find in game are dive bombers. Dive bombers, as the name suggest,
are bombers that dive at their targets in order to provide greater accuracy for their
bomb drops. When they dive at their target, the trajectory of the bomb is simplified and
provides for a far greater accuracy in the drop. Dive bombers are usually defended by
a rear gunner and some are great at maneuvering. Dive bombers also have air brakes which are
great for slowing your approach at the targeted enemy ground units and can be creatively used
when dogfighting if necessary. One of the most notable examples of dive bombers are
the Ju 87 series of dive bombers. In War Thunder for example, the Ju 87D-5 is equipped with
2 20mm cannons, defended by 1 rear 7.92mm Machine gun turret, and can carry multiple
payloads of bombs such as 3 250kg bombs. Currently in game we also find a Jet bomber,
the arado 234B-2. The arado is a very unique aircraft with great top speeds but also limited
payload and currently no defensive capabilities. There are also various other types of planes
in game but currently, these represent the main general classes of aircraft you will
find in game. If you are new to the game, explore the various types of aircrafts, find
the style of play you like the most, pursue those styles of planes but also dont be afraid
to try out something new and get better at other types of aircraft. I wish you the very
best in War Thunder and remember to have fun. If you are new to the game, welcome. Feel
