What's good. This is Fevir with some more Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn content.
In this video we'll be looking at the Lancer class, specifically the Lancer abilities and
traits, as well as the Lancer playstyle within Final Fantasy 14.
The Lancer is probably the class I'm the most fond of because I can remember fighting with
my brother over who got to use Kain the dragoon in Final Fantasy IV because no one wanted
to use that punk Cecil. And they did Kain justice because the Lancer class is awesome.
I'm not going to talk specifically about each ability, you can throw it into HD and fullscreen
if you would like to read the abilities- I'll talk about they all contribute to the Lancer's
playstyle.
Put simply- the Lancer is a lightly armored, penetration & strength based- melee, physical
damage dealer... what a mouthful. It's abilities are very positionally based having moves that
have improved effects when attacking from the rear or flank- as well as having abilities
that deal damage in a line in front, or a circle around. Unlike other lightly armored
DPS classes in other games, like a rogue or thief or trickster... you lack defensive abilities-
or ways to disengage from combat. Because the mentality of a Lancer is. I will kill
you before you kill me. Period.
To that effect the Lancer's toolkit has abilities that increase it's own damage and apply debuffs
to increase damage. The Lancer even has an ability that increases it's own damage at
the cost of taking more damage.
The Lancer has a few abilities that are transferable to other physical damage classes- of note
is the Lancer's main defensive move- Keen fury- providing 20% parry for 20 seconds and
Invigorate which restores a large portion of TP.
Trait-wise the Lancer is very bland. Traits increase the Lancer's strength attribute and
basically increase the uptime of his self buffs and debuffs through direct increases
or cooldown reduction.
Overall the class is ridiculously offensive- and will probably shine in instances where
straight damage is needed like end game PvE. Keen Fury is shallow enough that tanks can
pick it up easy with very little investment. Overall a solid choice... just remember that
it isn't the size of the spear you wield... just how you wield it.
