Good Morning, I'm Marco Manfredi,Baschieri & Pellagri's Reasearch and Development manager.
Our company boasts 128 years of history
indeed it was born in 1885 producing gun powder
Nowadays it is recognized for its innovative products all over the world
Baschieri & Pellagris's history continues, after 20 years
the company started to produce competition cartridges
and hunting cartridges. After these,
other productions started to be made,
such as plastic wads industry
in which B&P is certainly leader.
We have always tried to aim for quality,
innovation, reasearch and development
of new products, and we think to be in the forefront,
as far as information and application of new products are concerned.
Today I am here to introduce you
a new innovative product which is addressed
mainly to hunting activities,
in particular to wild boar hunting.
It is a 12 gauge slug, called Palla
B&P lead free. It is in gauge 12 and its diameter
is of 18.4 mm and it is loaded on 70 mm shells.
"Lead Free" indicates the main characteristic of this bullet,
that is the metal with which it is made,
which is completely lead free.
After several studies and tests,
firstly simulated and then actually effectuated,
we have found that the highest speed
reached by a 12 gauge slug
is obtained with a bullet weight
between 21 and 24 g.
In order to reach this goal,
that is making the slug lighter
of about a 30% keeping B&P's lead slug profile,
we have studied this special alloy
that is very similar to lead from the point of view
of hardness and deformation,
but its density is considerably lower.
As you can see, these two slugs look apparently the same,
but they are absolutely not, because left slug
is the 32g lead one
which is commercialized by B&P from years.
You can see that the higher lead part is 28.5g
wich added to 3.5g, arrives to 32g.
The slug with black ***,
has the same profile and so the same barrel guide
of the lead slug, but is filled
with a lighter material,
and so the metallic part is 19 g, against 28.5g,
which added to ***'s weight
it arrives to 22.5g.
Plastic ***'s weight
is part of total weight because it remains fasten
to the metallic part so it is part of the arithmetic
made to determinate energy.
So, thanks to a 22.5 g slug with this special loading
we can reach these results.
Here you can see a figure
with distance, speed, energy in joule and kgm
trajectory and time of flight.
The speed reached by this "light" bullet
it is 602 m/s.
It is an extraordinary elevated speed, equal to 1.8 mach,
corresponding to 2.160 km/h of speed.
This speed can be reached only with a weight of 22.5 g.
The energy you see here, 417 kgm,
just to give you an idea and a comparison,
is the same energy obtained with a 35 g slug
with 480 m/s speed,
which is extremely elevated and very hard to reach.
The achievement of such an extreme speed
is crucial for a quite light bullet.
But it is even more important
that this bullet, once collided with a tissue,
presents a predisposition to expand and change its gauge,
so it can trasmit loading energy on wild
as better as possible.
This kind of material and bullet's shape,
are particularly suitable to this kind of expansion.
The central part of the cylindrical section,
once collided with a target,
becomes harder.
It starts to penetrate inside cylindrical section,
which is obliged to extend when the central part begins to insert,
until it seems an "overturned bell",
increasing impact surface on wild of 70%,
and uploading optimally all the energy
that the bullet has gathered at that point.
From these images of different tests we have made,
you can see how this deformation takes place.
I think these photos are very important.
As you can see in the left photo,
we have got the original slug before being shot,
picked up at 50 meters distance,
where this expansion is already stressed of 30%.
In the right photo
the bullet has reached the max extension
and it has being picked up at a distance of 30 meters.
Let's see the same slug photographeted from the bottom sight.
You can see how the 18 coil vein are open.
Another result and aim required from a slug is precision,
so all previously purposes will be vane and worthless,
if slug is not precise.
Here we see bullet's precision at a distance of 50 meters.
We have shot 5 shots with a cylindrical barrel
and this is the result inside a circle of 5 cm.
This is really an excellent shot pattern.
Let's briefly look at slug's shape:
18 coil veins on the external surface.
This is the only slug which has such an elevated number of veins.
They allow keeping the guide in the barrel
andhelping slug to adapt to every type of choke.
The plastic *** you can see in the bottom part
has the function to stabilize the push from the inside of the barrel
and to balance weights in flight step.
The "hollow point" head is a shape which increases the expansion
of the diameter in impact step.
Let's look at the packaging:
it is a box which contains 5 pieces, so it is quite little.
On it you can find all the information I've given to you during this presentation,
such as precision, slug's deformation, different results,
speed, energy, shooting trajectory and flight time.
There are also the gauge, the shell's height (in mm and inch)
and the bullet's weight in grams and ounce.
The symbol you can see here on the smaller side of the packaging,
means that this product is totally free of lead.
I hope I have been clear in this brief presentation.
This product will be available on December 2012
among the best gunshops.
I've got a personal request:
once you have tried our product,
please send us your judgment and the results you reached.
It is very important to us understand if you, end users,
recognize our final aims.
Good luck for your wild boar hunting
and I hope to meet you as soon as possible
at the next new product's presentation.
