Today we're going to talk about our fundraiser, "Send a Kid to Camp".
Now, this is very very close to me.
What it is, this is a camp for Type 1 diabetic kids. It's called Bearskin
Meadows.
At this camp, it's all about families of kids with Type One Diabetes. There's a
lot of parents are Type One also. Every year we go up to- it's over by Hume
Lake, it's Bearskin Meadows- we go up there for a week every single year. Now, what
this camp does, is we're camped out, we're on a deck with other families; the kids
they get to go play all kinds of fun games, archery, have all these fun tasks;
and the parents, we get to go into classes. We go into classes and we
learn all about dealing with Type One Diabetes. Type One Diabetes is very
difficult, it's hard to do, it's a 24/7 battle.
It doesn't get any easier, you just get better at the game. So, what we do is we
try to raise money to send kids and families to camp.
So, what we do is we take our coke bottle- that was my son's piggy bank- we take it
to all the events that we go to, we ask people for spare change. Because you know
what? Spare change adds up more and more and more. And what we're doing is
we're finally taking the bottle- we have filled most of the bottle full-
the camp is starting this month in July,
I'm going to personally be going the first week of August to camp to spend
our week.
So, what we're doing is, we're taking it to the bank, we're going to empty out all of the
change, and we're going to see how many families were sending to camp this year.
So, I want to thank everybody for helping us and we're going to be trying to raise
more money for more families next year so everybody please go to the links
below, donate anything you can, if you have spare change put it in an envelope, in
a box, and send it to us because you know what? Type One Diabetes, it doesn't get any
easier it gets harder and harder and harder.
And you know what? If we can make it a little easier by sending kids and families
to camp,
learning how to deal with type one diabetes, it's such a great cause and a
great thing. It's tremendously helped our family, our lives beyond belief.
You know what? A high percentage of families divorce from type one diabetes.
You know what? I go in and I talk to dads about being strong,
fighting for it, they've got to be the man of the house, they've got to be strong for
the wife and for their son or daughter that is type one diabetic. You know what? And it's
unexplained,
we don't know why this happens. So you know what, what we're going to do is
we're going to help people on day-to-day living. This isn't about the cure, this is
about dealing with it day to day and that's what this money's for. So you know
what, anything you can do to help, it's greatly appreciated. And also,
everybody that has donated over the last year,
thank you for all the help. We really appreciate every dollar, every
nickel, every penny.
Thank you for everything and we can't wait to see how much more money we raise
in the future. Thank you
