Hi, I’m Mike Camelin with SunState Aviation Flight School in Kissimmee, Florida for Expert
Village. In this segment we’re going to talk about some of the added equipment that
you might want to consider as a student pilot to have in your flight bag. Now the necessities
would include training materials that your flight school would recommend and books and
so forth. There are a few extra things that are not absolutely necessary but might be
helpful, one of which may be an Electronic Flight Computer as opposed to the old slide
rule kind. Many people find these easier to use especially the younger students who are
used to the technology. Also one might consider a hand held radio transceiver, this is a great
backup in case of an unusual radio failure in the aircraft, it’s also very useful to
get your weather reports before you get into the airplane. Then all modern airplanes now
days are equipped with an intercom system and radios for talking to the control tower.
One of the things that’s going to make this a lot easier is a good communications headset.
