What's the reason of couples' suffering?
What breaks a happy marriage?
When it comes to bedroom,
main reason of all quarrels and discords is...
LIGHT!
One wants to read some more,
and prevents the other's happy sleep.
Is there any solution?
A headlamp? Separate bedrooms?
Even divorce?
Up to this time these were almost the only solutions
to the late evening reading problem.
Thank's goodnees,
now it's all changed.
And all thanks to the efforts of company named Barnes & Noble
and the e-book reader called Nook Simple Touch
with embedded led backlight
called Glowlight.
Glowlight is the main difference
of this model from the previous Nook Simple Touch
And God bless this little difference!)
Here we have 6-inches
e-Ink Pearl display
with 600x800 dots resolution,
Android operating system,
2 GB of internal memory
and 256 MB of RAM. There is memory card slot
for SD cards,
Wi-Fi interface and microUSB.
If you read for 1 hour every day, the battery will last
almost 2 monthes without charging.
And the Glowlight will shorten this
term almost in half.
e-reader is compact, nice to the touch,
rounded, and places itself good in hands.
On top there is a big
on/off button.
With it you can put the reader to sleep
or reboot it, if it
suddenly hangs.
Almost all of e-reader
do this from time to time.
On the right side we have card slot.
There's a big
Home button
looked like horseshoe, for good luck
and long rubber buttons for turning pages
besides.
This buttons are a little tight, but
you almost don't need them, because of touch screen.
But someone still find it much comfortable to just touch the button
On the first power on you will be asked
even required to
choose some settings and register.
All of this needs Wi-Fi, so i hope
you have it.
Book menu completely in English, but it's simple.
Press Home button and walk a bit on it's chapters
From the home screen you can
continue reading,
see the list of downloaded books
and get in bookstore to buy some more.
All purchased or downloaded books
will show in the library as list or thumbnails.
You can also connect to social networks.
This book handles
only two formats: ePUB
and PDF.
Three years earlier
almost any of you would
turn this review off here
with a words like "let's look elsewhere, guys".
But now formats are
no longer a problem.
Almost any store or library
store books in e-PUB format.
But if you still have some old file with a book
in some strange format
you can easily use
some converter program
or some converter web-page,
as they now can translate anything into anything.
It takes only couple of clicks.
So let's open a book,
choose appropriate font size and just read.
And for the
backlight.
Let's long press Home button to turn it on.
On sides display shines a little brighter,
but in whole the light is even and do not distract
your reading.
Press lightbulb to change
light level.
And if you lost something,
there's no need to look for the torchlight.
Glowlight provided by thin film,
which is placed over
the display.
This film if vulnerable,
so you should use a cover to protect it.
Of course, you can read from almost any
display-equipped device,
but if you want to do no harm for your eyes,
the e-ink is still much better.
For sure, any tablet such as iPad will beat this reader
with it's colorful
shining display, but personally i
don't like to read from iPad, because i'm contantly
distracted - sometimes just want to run some game,
or go to Facebook and so on.
Still, on a bright sunny day
i don't like reading from iPad,
as it's display glares and dim,
and battery goes down pretty quick.
This is completely different with Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight
you can read with this little reader almost anywhere: under the blanket,
on a beach.
It's an excellent e-reader,
and all it's small shortcoming
are compensated with a reasonable price.
