ANCHOR>> Computer programmers are gearing up for a 24-hour "hackathon." The AT&T Rochester
Civic App Challenge begins tonight at 6 o'clock at RIT. Participants will spend 24 hours building
smartphone apps to serve community needs. Every team has to have at least one member
who's a Rochester native or who attends a school locally. The goal is to encourage the
local tech community and show how mobile technologies can lead to jobs. ANDREW PHELPS>> There's
a lot of opportunities there to not just make something and have it be a great entry in
a contest and walk away from it, but to make something that could have some real legs and
grow into something that lasts and has impact. ANCHOR>> The 24-hour hackathon is just a kickoff
for the main event. The challenge itself runs for 60 days. Over $15,000 dollars in prizes
will be awarded.
