You know Dr. Scholz, I have the privilege of going to cancer medical conferences all
over the country as part of my job here and I am probably on that cancer conference tour.
A lot of times when I meet people from other countries, specifically physicians, they have
other approaches. Are other countries as aggressive in treating prostate cancers as we are in
The general answer is absolutely they are not. In fact in some cases, those other countries
err too much on the other side for financial reasons. They don't even do PSA testing and
many of the Scandinavian countries, if you get even an aggressive cancer, they still
don't treat you, they just watch you and studies can show that the death rates from prostate
cancer are indeed higher in these other countries. So, yes the pendulum has swung all the way
the wrong direction in one direction in our country too much treatment and then in many
other countries the pendulum is on the other side where they are really not aggressive
enough and there are a lot of men that
are
dying unnecessarily.
