Hi, today we're talking about how to pick out a healthy parakeet. So if you wanted a
parakeet and you want to make sure that you've got certain things, you want bright eyes,
they should be chirping, they should seem lively, interested in what you are doing.
They should have, you know their seer which is their nose should look clear. They shouldn't
seem like they have any respiratory problems. Their feet and nails should look clean and
without any scaling. Their tail feathers should be long and bright. They should look just
overall they should seem active. If the bird is sitting on the perch fluffed up uninterested,
all the other birds are flying around and this one's like ahh he looks so sweet cause
he is just sitting there, that bird is not in good shape and you don't want to pick out
that bird. You want to make sure that you get your bird from a healthy source to begin
with. Generally private breeders are the best. They seem to have the smallest amount of influx
of disease. A lot of times pet stores or high density breeders will end up with so many
animals that it's hard to worry about quality control so a lot of these birds will have
mites on their legs or end up with other help problems from a high density environment.
These birds kept in very large flocks end up stressed out and diseased because of the
high density environment so if you can get one from a source that is just you know, a
smaller, a small time breeder that seems to care for the birds carefully that's generally
a good way to make sure that you are getting a healthy animal.
