Hi there! Rachel Papworth here with a simple, but
really effective, organising tip. I'm a huge fan of
containers in containers. So, for all those little things that tend to get
lost in drawers and cupboards,
what I like to do is put them inside a container
in that drawer or cupboard, to make it easy for me to lay my hands on them as soon as I want them,
and not to have to rummage around looking for them. And I'm going to give you a few examples
of that now.
This is the drawer in my kitchen where I keep all sorts of implements that don't fit anywhere
else.
It needs managing. I have to declutter it
regularly, or at least tidy it and organise it regularly because, as you can see, there's quite a lot
in it. I think we've all got a drawer like this.
The reason I'm showing it to you is because I want to draw your attention to this little tub.
So, this is one of those takeaway tubs that ended up in my house. I can't even remember
how come (I don't even think it was my takeaway)
and I use it to hold all the measuring spoons, because otherwise they get a bit lost in this
drawer.
So, I often use measuring spoons and
that tub means that I can open the drawer and lay my hand on one right away.
Another place where I use the container in container
approach is the bag that I carry around with me on a daily basis.
So this, obviously, already contains my sunglasses and my purse and
so on and it also contains this little bag and, in this, I keep all the little bits and pieces that would
otherwise rattle around in the
bottom of my handbag. So it's got a pen
and headphones and lip balm and that kind of thing, lives in here, makes it easy to find
all those little bits and pieces. One more place
the cabinet under my bathroom sink where I have a little tub here
that contains all my medicines. Makes it easy to pull that out
and quickly lay my hand on whatever medicine it is that I'm looking
for. So, as you're moving about your home,
watch out for anything that you always have to rummage for in a
drawer, or a cupboard, and you always have trouble finding, and see if it would help
to put that item or those items into a box or a bag
inside that cupboard or drawer. Don't rush out to buy a new box or bag to
fulfil that task. Usually, there's something around the house that we can use already
like the takeaway food tub that I use for my measuring spoons.
