For thousands of years,
Vietnamese farmers have devoted their lives
to working the green fields to harvest its prosperous rice.
Throughout life’s ups and downs,
the farmers’ story
and the Vietnam Rice Journey are being rewritten with completely new perspectives.
Its ancestors sweat and tears
have turned wilderness areas into fertile green fields.
Generation to generation,
unfortunately destitution and poverty were still following them.
Mostly depending on the weather,
cultivation causes much anxiety for the farmers.
Whether on hot and sunny or rainy days,
the farmers persevere with the paddy fields as a part of their life.
For years,
the farmers have been desperately struggling with
and searching for ways to protect themselves from their constant worry of pests and insects.
Even after harvesting,
they continue struggling to preserve every paddy grain.
However, there is still another paradoxical and heartbreaking situation
that Vietnamese farmers have to suffer:
"Bumper Crops, but Lower Price”.
As a result, the farmers’ bargaining power
for their hard-worked crop becomes unacceptably low.
After paying for the all expenses,
the farmers are left with only a modest profit
which puts their life and their family into hardship as they continue in their battle against poverty.
This paradox has become a real threat to the sustainable development of agriculture in Vietnam,
in which the biggest impacts are endured by the farmers.
As the leading company in the pesticide market in Vietnam,
An Giang Plant Protection Joint Stock Company,
referred to as AGPPS – has been listening to
and cooperating with the farmer’s wishes to help achieve a sustainable agricultural development.
Established by the farmers themselves and relying on their needs for future growth,
AGPPS is always mindful that today’s status and success
is the result of a long lasting relationship which has earned the farmers trust.
Mr. Huynh Van Thon, a Vietnam Hero of Labor,
is AGPPS’ Board Chairman and CEO.
Over the years, AGPPS and its Boards have determined to seek out the solutions
for the farmer’s struggling situation: “Bumper Crops, but Lower Price”;
AGPPS named it: The Value chain with sustainable production process on the Large scale rice fields.
Starting in 2006, AGPPS launched the program
"Working together with Farmers",
and formed a force of Agricultural Engineers,
called “Toge Three” (Ba Cùng) which means
“Live TOGEther – Eat TOGEther – Work TOGEther” with farmers.
Toge Three force will work on the field to gather information about the farmer’s needs, wishes,
and their production requirements.
In the mean time,
"Toge Three” force of AGPPS has more than 900 agricultural engineers
operating at 8,924 sites, and 82 technical consulting points across the country.
Determined to apply scientific advances in agricultural production, operating at 8,924 sites, and 82 technical consulting points across the country.
Determined to apply scientific advances in agricultural production,
AGPPS built the first research center owned by a private company in Vietnam,
located in Dinh Thanh, An Giang.
AGPPS has conducted many research projects including:
Agenetic breeding, plant protection, soil science and agronomy,
microbiology, agricultural mechanics, food processing,...
Scientists at the Agricultural Research Center
have been working relentlessly to develop highly applicable scientific solutions
to employ the productivity for Vietnamese farmers.
AGPPS rice production model has been receiving special support
from the Government of Vietnam.
Including senior members of parliament; such as Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh
and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan.
Parliament’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan even visited the AGPPS model.
In 2012, the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Yim Chhay Ly
visited rice production models of AGPPS
and hoped that these solutions would also be applied for Cambodian farmers.
AGPPS began the production model "Large-scale rice field model"
in which AGPPS provide farmers with high quality seeds that is resistant to pests and has superior productivity.
With the investment in many large-scale advanced research centers,
factories the Seed Division of AGPPS has become the market leader in the Mekong Delta area,
provides many major seeds to the market including rice varieties, corn varieties and vegetables.
In order to support the ongoing development of the Food Division,
Plant Protection Division,
AGPPS packaging plant was reconstructed with a total area of 34,000 m2;
with the aim to produce and supply carton and PP textile packages
in compliance with export standards to the Mekong Delta market.
As the Vietnamese market leader in the plant protection sector,
AGPPS has a complete product portfolio which provides quality products,
and reliable protection solutions for food crops, industrial crops and vegetables.
With the commitment to ensure quality and sustainability,
AGPPS has been constantly conducting research on product improvements,
not only to meet the production requirements but also to contribute in protecting the environment.
With a distribution network of over 4000 retailers and 500 dealers across the country,
AGPPS products have reached every area of Vietnam to provide farmers with complete solutions in crop protection.
The “Toge Three” always work directly on the fields;
and collaborate closely with the farmers to transfer advanced science and modern cultivation techniques.
For the first time, farmers who join the production chain
of AGPPS learn to start making notes of the origins of the rice varieties,
and to calculate the practical production cost through the use of a “Field Diary”.
Gradually, Vietnamese farmers are changing their mindset toward agricultural commodity production,
through close collaboration with companies,
scientists and management in creating exponential growth for Vietnam’s agriculture.
The increasing use of automation and modern solutions of large-scale cultivation
has gradually contributed to lessen the burden of the farmer’s work.
On the growing green fields, the farmer are now filled with joy and optimism,
and infused with hope for a brighter future.
Also farmers who can master the modern cultivating techniques are able to enhance their position,
and able to decide their selling time to achieve the best price.
From the large scale field with sustainable cultivation process,
the paddy grain is processed through AGPPS advanced rice mill factories
located across the Mekong Delta area; and to begin the rice journey to markets throughout the world.
AGPPS rice products are produced from an entirely self-contained process
in which the rice origin can be tracked, and the quality is assured.
For the first time, Vietnam’s rice grain with the AGPPS brand has achieved rigorous standards
which are required for export to the Japanese market, one of strictest market in the world.
In domestic markets, AGPPS’s rice product with the brand of “Vinh Binh” rice, “Hạt Ngọc Trời” rice, and Vibigaba rice
are step by step convincing Vietnamese consumers.
The rewards and benefits from the long journey of the rice production chain,
with its sustainable process are now shared with the farmers.
Farmers and their families have found a new way to improve their life standard and develop sustainably.
Joy and hope are now spreading to future generations.
With the mission "Sustainable development together with the farmer",
AGPPS In partnership with farmers are creating a large-scale, high quality and reliable agricultural production.
With enthusiastic hearts, we share together with Vietnamese farmers in the hope
of a prosperous way of life and for the assurance of future generations.
AGPPS also contributes to educating the younger generation through teaching about Vietnam’s long history
and legacy in rice production, and also as a way to uphold and honor the work and achievements of their forefathers.
Heading toward a prosperous future, committing to spread the sustainable values,
AGPPS always has and always will work together with Vietnamese farmers to write a new story for Today and Future Generations.
AGPPS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT TOGETHER WITH THE FARMER.
