In this video we're going to show you how to be more water-efficient in your garden,
with water storage, plant selection and irrigation. One of the easiest ways to make your garden
more water efficient is to collect your own water with the use of a water tank. These
days, you can get water tanks in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and colors to suit any location
and any budget.
You can hook your water tank up to a pump or you can use gravity feed. Another good
way to be more water-efficient in your garden is the with use of [great] water hoses connected
to your bathroom or your laundry they feed the water straight into your garden right
where you want it.
If you have a pool in your yard a good way to stop evaporation is with the use of a pool
blanket. If you do need to top up your pool you can always connect a hose to your water
tank and fill it up that way. Mulches are one of the best and simplest way to retain
water in your garden. There are plenty that you can use including wood chips, sugar cane,
lucerne, and pea straw. An alternative to mulching is ground covers with low grain and
dense foliage they help prevent water loss.
An effect way of using water is with an irrigation system. This allows you to get the water directly
to where the plants need it most. Therefore cutting down the amount you'll need. Another
good method to getting the most out of your water in the garden is with the use of water
storage crystals. Water storage crystals are a great idea, as they store the water down
at the roots of the plant and release it as the plant needs it.
Just sprinkle them on the soil and rake it through for great results. When watering your
garden it's best to give long, deep waters rather than short frequent ones. Plant selection
plays an important role in a water efficient garden. Plants such as [natives] and grasses
are a great examples of low water use plants.
